How to Reopen an Existing New York Unemployment Claim

It may become necessary for you to reopen an existing New York unemployment claim if you suspend or cancel your unemployment because you found a job, and then later became unemployed again.

Generally, you can reopen an existing unemployment claim by simply filing a weekly certification online or by phone -- just like you did every week when you receiving unemployment previously.

In some cases, it may be necessary to speak to an unemployment counselor or start the process all over again in order to reopen an existing unemployment claim in New York. If this is the case, contact your unemployment counselor to get exact instructions on how to proceed.

Will I be notified by mail when my unemployment benefits run out? I have tried to claim my weekly benefits and I only have the option to file a claim. Is this due to the new web site?

I completed one benefit year of unemployment and was told to file a new claim, which I did and was approved. I completed the second claim to the very end including EUC08 Emergency benefits to tier 3 and 29 weeks of EB payments . Total of 93 weeks.. I then was allowed to reopen my first claim and finish off 2 weeks of my remaing tier 1..and then tier 2 and 3. Since I live in NYS tier 4 was eliminated Sept 2, 2012 and Extended benefits started again. I was told since I altready collected EB on my second claim I was ineliigible and my payments stopped. I was told if the unemployment rate increases again and tier 4 comes back I would be eligible to collect long as I keep this correct...I am confused...sorry this is so long...

I have to re-open my case and would like to know the correct way to do this. I have a valid claim on file. Can i do this thru Tel service number or should i do online? I prefer to actually talk to a live person, on the phone, but need the correct number to do so. Any info/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanxs. My lay off is in 2 days.

I started on unemployment earlier this year and then found a job which I started on october 6, 2017. I worked 2 weeks and then they let me go because they said that I wasn't the right fit for the job. My last day there was 10/20/2017. Anyway I went on the NY unemployment site and it had me enter the details about why I was let go and everything and I have been certifying my claim since then but I have not received any new payments since my last partial one on 10/8/2017. How long does it take to get payments again? This is the third week since I have been certifying again. The system just says that I certified for the week each time. I last certified 11/14/2017. Shouldn't I be able to get payments on my claim since I have 40 days left?
