Florida Unemployment Extension

If your Florida unemployment benefits have run out you may be eligible to receive extended unemployment benefits through one of the state or federal unemployment extension programs.

This federal unemployment extension programs is called Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (Also known as EUC08).

Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08) includes 4 stages, or tiers. Each tier has a different maximum time period for which your unemployment extension will last:

Tier 1 EUC08: 20 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 2 EUC08: 14 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 3 EUC08: 13 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 4 EUC08: 6 week maximum unemployment extension.

If you use up all of your regular unemployment benefits, normally you don't have to apply for an unemployment extension because the system automatically applies for you, if you are eligible. It is very important that you keep track of your benefits to make sure you receive your unemployment extension if you are eligible.

If you get close to your unemployment benefits running out, give your unemployment counselor a call to check to see what you have to do in order to get they unemployment extension.

There is another type of unemployment extension called Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED), more commonly referred to as Extended Benefits (EB). You will only qualify for the EB unemployment extension if you have used up all of your regular unemployment benefits and also used up all of your EUC08 unemployment extension.

If you qualify for the EB unemployment extension you will receive additional benefits equal to 20 weeks or 80% of the maximum benefit amount on the original unemployment claim, whichever amount is less.

When my benefits were suspended I was unable to get through to a worker with unemployment, all representatives were busy, click..... after 15-16 call cut offs I contacted my State Representative, and they couldn't get through either... Finally I contacted Gov Rick Scott's office, who connected me directly to a worker. If you are having problems and can't get through, don't give up, The Gov's office helped me and they will also help you. This not only helps you but let's him know what kind of problems we are having. After 22 years with my company, they closed our Florida office and let all 60 employees go..... It is hard being unemployed, and I am so thankful for the temp help till I find a job,... but at 63....I know finding a job will be challenging...Here's wishing that all of us who want to work are able to find appropriate jobs....soon.... Never give up..... Best Wishes in your search,

My balance on my unemployment is only $80. I just received my last UEC check for $522. However, my 20 weeks has not ended, I still have 4 more weeks left. How does this work? What will happen next?

Beginning receiving florida unemployment 02/11/2011. Just been notified that my benefits are used up. All the tiers and levels are confusing. When I begin receiving benefits I was told benefits were for 99 weeks. Has that changed?

I have been unemployed since being laid off in Feb, 2011 due to the company outsourcing my department. With the exception(s) of two temp jobs, one from April-July of 2011, and the other for but a week last month, I've been barely existing on unemployment benefits. Now with the extension of Federal unemployment being cut completely off on Dec 29, I'm absolutely terrified. It doesn't help that I live in Brevard County, Fl (home to Cape Canaveral, where some 5000-10000 employees lost THEIR jobs this summer). Our COUNTY UE rate is 11.10% (as of yesterday), but because FIVE large Fl counties saw their rates drop below 7.5%, the STATE UE avg has dropped to the point that Gov Scott has cut off the extensions for the entire STATE. I've been trying to check daily on any SIGN that the politicians in DC have grown a heart despite their Grinchy exterior, but haven't seen anything heartening. Does ANYONE know what steps a 50 yr old single, childless woman should take to ensure SOME means of income until a job FINALLY appears? I try to hold out some semblance of faith in our gov't, hoping and praying they realize their constituency actually consists of REAL, LIVING, BREATHING (for now, anyhow) PEOPLE. It doesn't seem that they care at all about any of us who they actually work for. As I see it, THEY have jobs, THEY make a pretty penny & THEY have the best benefits on the planet, so they're COMPLETELY out of touch with "Main Street". Clearly, they've been made aware of all the predictions of the country going COMPLETELY underwater with no one having the ability to buy GROCERIES, or pay their basic bills (rent & utilities) much less anything else. Please let me know what I can do once the 29th comes and goes. Thank you for what you do, and realizing what the politicians don't. That REAL PEOPLE are behind these comments. And we're SCARED!!!

My UE balance says I have $155 left. I called to find out about the extentions & a lady told me the system automatically applies for me. Will my checks continue as regular. Or is there a waiting period for my checks to start again? Also since my balance shows as $155, does that mean that's what I will receive & not my usually $426? Any help would b great. My daughter birthday is the day after my last check and I was hoping for the full $426.

I was laid of my job where I had worked for 11 years. It was a local government job but I was an exempt employee, which made it difficult to move unilaterally within the department. Nonetheless, when the county began experiencing financial difficulties, I unfortunately was one of the last in and first out, meaning the department I was assigned eventually went private and I lost my employment and benefits, thus forcing me to make a drastic decision to retire early, with no other source of income I filed for unemployment, which I began receiving in late June of 2012. My regular benefits ran out in November 2012, then I began the first tear of EUC08, which I am a little confused about the 20 weeks, please clarify weeks? Second tear began February 2013. Third tear June 2013 where if was cut short due to Sequestration. The DEA informed me that there was no tear four and no further benefits to claim. I was not provided any additional information or assistance. I did a little research and stumbled across a program called FED-ED (EB). How do I find out if I am qualified for this program and or any other Federally funded programs to assist me until I can find adequate employment. Thank you for your assistance.

My Florida UI benefits just ran out on 7/09/2016 and am reading that I might be eligible for extended benefits. Mine was for 13 weeks. Can you tell me if that is so because some of the information indicates that UI would have auto applied for extended benefits. Also would there be any help from FED-ED under the circumstances of exhausting all my Florida UI benefits
