Do I qualify for unemployment benefits?

  1. You must be unemployed through no fault of your own.
  2. You must be able to work, available for work, and searching for work.
  3. You must always be willing to accept a suitable job while you are claiming benefits.
  4. You must have been paid at least $8,880 in either your Base Period or an Alternate Base Period (both are explained in the following sections). If you did not earn this amount, you may be eligible if you meet all of the following conditions:
    • You were paid at least $1480 in one of your Base Period quarters, and
    • You were paid total Base Period wages of at least one and one-half times your highest single quarter earnings, and
    • You were paid total Base Period wages of at least $2960.

How do I file for unemployment benefits?

Newly unemployed persons may now file a claim online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for all Rhode Island Unemployment Insurance programs at https://uiclaims.state.ri.us/RI-ICS/Intro/Index.aspx?AC=yes.

To check the status of your claim, click Access Account Information. You will need your BYE (Benefit Year Ending), Social Security number and PIN number to check your status.

The average turn-around time for UI claims filed online is seven to ten days.

I am a clinical mental health therapist. I was laid off when the agency downsized. I have an opportunity to potentially contract (self employed?!) for some work for a temporary period of time. If I do this, it is temp. could I restart unemployment when it ends?
Also, I am a military spouse and we are scheduled to move from NC to RI. I will not be licensed in RI due to state variations. Is there something that will protect me and allow me to continue??

I worked fast food and at start I worked no less than 20 hours a week. Now I work less than 7. Recently, I have had problems standing for long periods of time (which has been a common problem since I was 12) and have fainted once at work, other times thanks to a poor immune system I have left work early due to vomiting (a huge issue in fast food yet was told to go home because I 'wasn't being a team player'). I am 19...if I quit because I am unable to do the job will I get unemployment?

Watchout for incompetent people working at the unemployment. You may be getting the wrong information which could affeect your ability to collect. I have heard alot of complaints about the infornmmmation givin to people.

The RIDLT scheduled me for an adjudication hearing by phone for 4/3/12 between the hours of 8am-12pm, and they never called. I now cannot get anyone at RIDLT to return my calls regarding their failure to call. What recourse do I have?

I will be laid off later this year. I signed a retention agreement stating I will receive a certain amount of money if I stay on until the day the company closes. I will also receive separate severance pay. WIll unemployment consider the retention bonus part of my severance package?

Can I collect unemployment if my plant closes down for 3 weeks straight? Is it legal that they make me use my vacation time to compensate for my loss of wages during those 3 weeks?
