Nevada Unemployment

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for unemployment benefits, you must meet all of the following requirements.
- You have earned sufficient income in the base period to qualify for a claim.
- You are determined to be out of work through no fault of your own.
- You meet all requirements of eligibility on a week to week basis as long as you are claiming benefits.
You will receive a monetary determination within 7 days after you file your initial claim. This will tell you the monetary amount of your claim (weekly and total potentially payable benefits).
If there is a question of eligibility relating to your claim, we must review the circumstances to determine if benefits may be paid to you.

Possible Eligibility Issues:
This is a list of situations that could possibly cause you to be ineligible for unemployment benefits.
- Separation from employment for reasons other than a layoff due to a lack of work;
- Payment of vacation pay, severance pay or payments made by the employer in lieu of a notice of impending layoff;
- Ability to work, availability for work or efforts to seek and secure work;
- Failing to report to a Nevada JobConnect office as directed to review your work search activities or to determine if you need reemployment assistance;
- Refusing work or failing to apply for a job as directed by a representative of the Nevada JobConnect office;
- Failing to file weekly claims for each week of unemployment;
- Failing to reply to a request for additional information or did not provide the information within the time period provided;
- Filing a claim for benefits based on employment for an educational institution or for a professional athletic team;
- Failing to report work and/or earnings for a week claimed for unemployment;
If there is a question of eligibility, you may receive a separate determination telling you if you are eligible based upon the reasons for the separation. If benefits are to be denied for ANY reason, you will be sent a written notice of our determination and providing you with instructions on how to file an appeal to that decision.
The fact finding and decision process normally take 3 weeks from the time you file your claim. We make all efforts to resolve questions of eligibility as soon as possible to minimize the impact of the loss of income, or to provide you with a quick determination and opportunity to appeal if you are found to not meet all eligibility requirements.

You should receive a letter in the mail stating whether you are eligible for additional tiers of extension, with specific instructions for how to proceed.
The DETR has established a special phone line that you can call and leave a message with you name, contact info, and questions about extended unemployment benefits, and someone will return your call within 3 days:
"The telephone number, (702) 486‐2958, will be operational Friday morning. A toll free number,
1‐888‐743‐2958, will be operational on Monday for those calling outside of Las Vegas. However
this Las Vegas number is operational from any location. These numbers will be open Monday
through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., allowing all calls to be completed by 5 p.m."

When the extension bill passed through Congress, Nevada DETR issued a statement on their website about how EUC would be handled. You can see that statement here: www.detr.state.nv.us/PDFS/Extensions_ending_update.pdf .
Right now, it looks like the website is not working properly, so you should contact them for help in using the online system:
Email: INTERNETHELP@nvdetr.org
or by phone: (775) 684-0427 (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time)
When it is working, you should do this:
If you are eligible, you should:
1. Go to the Nevada DETR Unemployment filing site: www.expressclaim.org/
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'I Agree' button.
3. Several new buttons will appear. Click on the button that says: 'I would like to restart an Existing Claim/File an Emergency Unemployment Claim'.
4. Even thought he instructions look like they don't appear to you (for restarting an existing claim / filing for EUC) this is just be a pre-qualification screen that everyone goes through. Read the instructions and answer the questions.
I hope this helps. Let us know what you find out.

It *may* be possible, and this is a big maybe - that your unemployment counselor could reopen your old claim - and you be able to continue like you never left.
In situations like this it is always best to go in to the unemployment office to reopen/refile your claim so you can best explain your situation to the unemployment counselor - and also get an understanding yourself about what is going on.

A) should I cease filing weekly claims and;
B) If the position does not turn permanent (i.e. ends after the 4-6 week period is over), can I reopen my existing claim with Nevada. I don't believe I will qualify for Washington State unemployment benefits.
I'm asking because I don't want to risk my existing unemployment by taking a temporary position.
Claims between states are always the most difficult to understand - because you are dealing with two state's laws and regulations - not just one.
For these questions it would be best to ask you current unemployment counselor about the best way to proceed.
To the best of my knowledge (not being in either of these two states):
A) Yes. You should cease filing weekly claims when you take the new position - even if it is temporary.
B) It is doubtful that you will be able to reopen your existing claim - but I wouldn't count on it.
Unemployment eligibility is determined in most cases from your last employer - so it is possible that you might not be eligible for Nevada unemployment having just worked in Washington.
Best advice is to ask your unemployment counselor or caseworker.

(accrued). I called DETR office and the representative told me that I will be eligible for unemployment after my vac pay runs out, so my question is:
Why I have to wait until my vac pay runs out when those vac days were accrued?
Please advice.

WWW.EPPICard.com

WELL:---The new funding was signed by Pres. Obama over a month ago.
YET:---Were is the money?
I have continued to file every week, expecting the additional money,
AND---Nearly five weeks later--NO MONEY
So what is happening?
This situation has become very disconcerting and exasperating and I would certainly appreciate your reply. My son is devastated by what has happened to him these past six weeks and is distraught and mentally exhausted. I'm sure he would be asking these questions if his mental state was up to it.
Thank you in advance.
I am also receiving severance pay can i still collect?
The only number I can find is the one for filing claims.
Can you give me another contact number or tell me if I need to file a tax return?
Thanks
i got the same message from what i understand there is a 52 wk max and even if you went on tier 1 or 2 you have to call and update do to 1 year is up
Thanks
I'm currently disqualified from unemployment benefits due to misconduct. It stated in my letter that I have to earn 145 for 10 weeks, OK so I get that part, I have a part time job and I'm just now about to hit my 10week mark and have 6 check stubs. But like 3 stubs are over the amount of 145 a week and the others are like 141, 139, 137 a week. I'm like off by a couple of dollars. Do you think that's fine? or do they really care about it being 145 a week? I did the math 145 times 10 is 1450, and the funny thing is I made that exact amount but problem is sometimes I earn a little less as mentioned above. Just would like to know before I send UI my stubs and they deny me again because I was short like 3-8 dollars in a week.. wow that would be a bummer..
Thanks for your help
Emily
