Tennessee Unemployment If You Get Fired

Generally, in Tennessee you have to have lost your job through no fault of your own in order to collect unemployment.

In most cases, this means that if you get fired, you cannot collect unemployment benefits.

If you get fired from your job, you should go ahead and apply for unemployment benefits, because there are some cases where you can be fired from your job and still get benefits.

If you feel like you were fired unfairly, or there were extenuating circumstances, be sure to tell you unemployment counselor about them. If your unemployment application is denied because you were fired, you also have the right to appeal the decision.

The official reason for my termination was "insubordination ." In reality, I was not given a clear explanation of what was expected of me. The owner of the business was rarely at the location; most of the time he wasn't even in the city. I did what I thought would be best for the company, but came to find it wasn't as quickly as the owner wanted. I filed for unemployment, and cited "insubordination " as the reason online. How do I know if my application has been accepted or not.

i have worked at a retailer for 3 years.no formal disciplinary actions. i left a company vehicle unlocked. my closers ofwhich there are 2 did not follow our closing procedures and lock it. i am getting a formal write up due to my district managers new personal friendsales rep bad mouthing me. i know i will be fired for a bullshit reason. any advice what to do so i can recieve benifits so i can go back to college for my last 2 semesters? sorry for punctuation and spelling i am on my cell phone.

I was in my 30 day training period and ran the cash register. I was written up three times and the first time was due to more than two items being voided and the second write up was because my register was over by ten dollars and the last one was because the register said I was under by $35.00. They fired me without even investigating the problem by going thruough the tape of my register to find what happened. Shouldn't you have at least a 30 day grace period to correct problems such as this and shouldn't your employer be responsible to see if the errors were not the fault of the machine? I have worked retail for other places and never had this type problem....the last error ....my register even said ....bank error...and my manager didn't do anything about that except when my shift ended....terminated me. I feel like this wasn't fair to me. Should I seek legal advise...is there any recourse concerning this situation. I had my register auited everyday while other employees did not. Thanks

I am currently working for a very well known loan company and have been there for a year this month. I orginally worked at another store and was being harassed and stalked by my manager and I found the evidence in the store computers. I reported my claim to the Corporate Office and got a transfer to another store. I have been working at the other store for about 2 months now and I feel like I am be retaliated against and feel they are trying to make me quit. I received a "Final Warning" write-up today for oversleeping and being about 30 min late which has never happened!!!! I feel like the mgr makes me doing more driving, more errands, won't ever approve any PTO but the other people here get their PTO approved and don't have to drive nearly as much as I do. I feel like because I stood up for myself now everyone labels me as a snitch and a liability to the company and are doing EVERYTHING in their power to get under my skin and make me walk out!!!! I refuse to quit.....but I would like to know if they fire me for my attendance bc (apparently if I'm ever 1 min late again) I will be fired because I received an official "Final Warning" written notification that I had to sign stating that basically you are fired if you screw up. I've been at this store for 2 months and this is my 2nd write-up here. Last month everyone here got a write-up for tardiness because people were showing up a few min late like it was no big deal. However after I received mine I made sure I was here early everyday and have not even been 1 min late since (unless the mgr shows up at 9:06am and makes me late because I was here in the parking lot at 5 til 9!!!) I feel like the write-up I got today was BS because it was a freak addident and it went from a warning last month....to a final notice...I don't get it!!! Can I get unemployment if I get fired for my attendance? I'm not gonna give them the benefit of the doubt of making me quit!!!

I was for insubornation but it was clearly a misunderstandin g i explained to hr but i was still fired and i have no prior corrective actions.

I think I'm about to be fired from a job ive held for over a year due to me missing too many days shortly after coming back from leave, I was recently diagnosed with depression and OCD and I was on leave because I had a baby which is also why I had been missing so many days. Would I be eligible for benefits?

i was the manager at a retail store, paid hourly. one day while looking over my paycheck i noticed they had shorted me 12hrs of overtime from the last two week pay period so i contacted payroll and got a check for the missing hours. a few weeks later i noticed this had happened every time i went to one of the manager meetings and called payroll about it. they told me i needed to go back through my entire two year history at the company and find every instance of this before they could pay me. this is very time consuming and difficult from the systems i have access to. so a few weeks pass and when i finally have time to do the research i call and let them know about 3 other instances. they made a huge deal about how even though the payroll had already been signed off on i had to get my boss and his bosses approval before i could get paid. three weeks later after still not being paid i was being investigated by loss prevention over some ridiculous crap from a year ago, put on suspension and then fired the next day over the phone claiming that i refused to cooperate with their investigation. i still have not been paid and now i no longer have access to the site where we can view our check stubs. something about this seems very wrong
