Go to your local CareerLink office. they have a hotline. I have used it 3 times and got through in less that 3 minutes.

you may have to drive a bit to get to CareerLink, but it really reduces the stress!

I called this number and the person who answered stated that it should NEVER have been given out to the public as a line for UC claims. She seemed like a very nice lady and she took my information and said that they have been passing the calls on to those that are "trying" to call us back within 48 hours. But, she did add that the return calls may take considerably longer now that her personal line has been put on the web.

ok, so after 3 weeks of busy signals, I'm now on hold!!! For whatever reason, I've been unable to process my last 2 bi-weekly claims online. I dialed this 570 number, but the 103 and 104 ext didn't work . I used ext 101.

Have spent over 9 hours this week trying to get through to a live person. Have used the 1-888 number, the 1-717 number, and the 1-877 number. The first one is consistently busy, the second one I have been on hold 6 times for an average of 38 minutes without anybody answering and the 1-877 is automated only. The answer I need is not online which is where I checked first. How do I get a hold of somebody?

Like all of you, I have spent days trying to call these numbers and get only a busy signal. I went to the local Career Link office which used to be an UC office . . . used their so-called direct line as receptionist filed her nails, and received only busy signal for 20 minutes.
Did get through to leave message on 570-496-2336. I have also called my state reps to complain about the system. I was told online and via PAT that my claim couldn't be processed as I reported I worked part time. Is that crazy! So I am punished for working.

# Linda Foster 2012-01-24 07:32
When you reach tier IV, you cannot pickup or drop off forms. They have to mail them to you. I did not receive my forms for UE for the 2nd week of December and called the toll-free # daily, throughout the day for just over 3 weeks. I finally reached someone after holding on the line for 2 hours & 8 min.
They resent forms (not the day that they said - I have the postmarked envelope) and it took 4 days to get from Harrisburg to York. I returned it in the mail the Friday before MLK day and received only 2 weeks deposit into my EBT account today. I have not gotten an income for over a month and I got half, so calling again, These agents are very overworked.
Calling the 570-496-2336 worked- hooray! It asks for an extension before giving you options; I kept guessing until one worked. I was told I would hold for 5 minutes but held for 26 minutes - literally a pleasant record: my longest hold was 3.3 hours after getting a busy signal for weeks. Usually, I have to leave my name and number when I get through and get a return call anywhere from late that day to 2 days later. They are so over-worked at UE.

Quoting Linda Foster:
... They are so over-worked at UE.
What an oxymoron, the Unemployment Center of Labor and Industry being overworked or understaffed. Like seriously hire some unemployed people!
After I filed my initial claim it took 7 weeks to get a determination only to find out I was denied. I sent in a request for an appeal that same day. Now it has has been 5 weeks and there is no word from the referee office. It has been over two months since I have been out of work and I really need these funds.
Enough venting and about the phone number. I found that calling one of the local numbers gets answered much more often than trying to call the toll free number. Maybe they only have so many co-concurrent calls allowed with the toll free number and that's why calling a direct number works better? I don't know, but at this page, http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=830724&mode=2 , is listed the numbers. With most people having cell phones these days, they are not long distance, minutes are minutes no matter what area code you dial.
Hope this helps for people to be able to get their calls answered.

You are hilarious WebSurfer. I called that 5704962336 only to find the number had been disconnected. The new number is 570.565.3050, but this is for employers only. I was of course put on hold, only to be received by a voice mail. You may try calling it as a claimant and they will provide another number.

I have an open unemployment claim however it is disabled because I am only partially unemployed and do not have to file every week. But every time I don't file the account become inactive and then I have to (CALL) and have them turn it back on. The process takes about 5 minutes after I speak to a representative but everytime I try to call the line is busy and I can never get through. This is bullshit and is denying me my unemployment

The busy lines are being put there on purpose by our wonderful republican administration in PA. It's an impediment to getting what is rightfully yours and they are making it difficult on purpose. The best way to file a claim is through the website. If you have a question that you can't find or fix on the website, then you either never get through on the phone line or you go to one of the offices. I'm not going to waste my time getting busy signals.

I was recently forced to resign from my job. I was told if i write a letter of resignation they would not contest to me collecting unemployment and i could still use them as a reference. I was on probation for 6 months because that was how long it was. When the time came to decide for me to go or stay they told me i wasn't cut ouy for the job and wouldn't give me a reason. The kicker is they told me they want me to leave and yet work another week so they could do interviews and discharge many people from our facility as possible. I am just wondering if i could collect unemployment even though i did write the letter of resignation because they said they won't contest to me collecting.

They can use that letter as proof that you resigned and they didnt let you go. Bad move in my opinion should have let them try to contest it. If you are fired/let go while on probationary period they dont really have to give you a reason other than they think you werent ut out for it. I guess you will have to wait and see if they were being truthful to you or not. I wish you the best.

Since I can't get through to a human on any of the 4 numbers I have tried in PA, I am contacting this service to answer a question for me. Will I be eligible for Unemployment Benefits if my teaching contract was not resigned for next year? It was a one year contract that I started in November. I worked from November 14th to June 1st as an English Teacher. The principal decided to not resign my contract and gave me NO REASON. The meeting where this was stated is recorded. If I do not receive benefits, I will be looking to get a lawyer. Now, am I eligible to get benefits?

Funny how the local numbers are always busy and the toll-free number consistently misdirects my calls about three times before I get through and have to wait......Seems a lot of people are having this problem even though when I mentioned it to a person who I FINALLY spoke to, he said that he'd never heard any complaints before! That was before he "accidentally" hung up on me after I insisted that he speak slowly and define every term and abbreviation he was using as I couldn't understand what he was saying. I suppose we're all just supposed to bow our heads like good little slaves and be thankful that the lord of the manors didn't take our homes, our children, or our lives today. People I know in Jersey and New York don't have half the issues we do. Corbett makes me want to believe in Hell just so I know he'll end up there.

I used the 570 number and entered extension 2053 (random out of my head #) and am sitting on hold with a wait time of "less than 30 minutes" we shall see. At least I don't have to keep hitting the redial button! I mean really, how on earth are we supposed to get jobs when we have to waste weeks on end reaching a human being? I did get tired of the busy signal and attempted to do it online only to have them screw me out of a weeks pay. I should only have a waiting week, but because I couldn't get a hold of a human being the 1st week, I end up losing 2. I need to speak to someone and do not have a local office to go to. UGH!

have made 3 claims plus my waiting week still no decision, what the hell is anyone supposed to live on until they send money, the electric company, water company, and rent do not want to hear this...... 7 weeks seems like a long time and not have any money coming in. ps.. talked to uc twice both times was told i would have an answer in about 2 days. that was two weeks ago.

Its ridiculous. I filed in March, and received my approval letter labeled "mailed on 9-11-2012.... and then it side i had to reopen since its been so long. ? are they kidding? and i finally get ahold of them and they say i can file on oct 7. LIE. I just got a letter dated 9-28 telling me i am now approved but can only claim until june 2012... that was 4 months ago... about to lose my home, have no food, and owe bills.... this government is a crock.

I called yesterday morning exactly when the clock turned to 7:00 and have received nothing but a busy signal since. It seems as if someone turns the phones to busy and just leaves them like that. We used to be able to leave our information and someone would call back the next day.

The 570 worked. I think any number wil work but you have to continuously call until you get tru. I'm on hold now for a less than 60 min wait as they said. And people, Obama is being blamed for every annoying and serious circumstance in our lives now. Get real, never has unemployment been so high. The system is finally being used with force. I only wish Romney wins so that when he inherits this mess Obama haters turn to Romney haters too. It's human nature.

This has taken me days to get through! I called the 507 number and finally am on hold right now! Wait time was said to be 50mins and ive been on 40 so hopefully it works. I feel everyone's pain on here. I was honorably discharged from the Marines in Nov then went to work as a temp making chump change. I moved away from where that job was and they are trying to deny me benefits just because I took a crap job! This is ridiculous I need money to at least cover my bills in the mean time and PA UC wont even help! Here's to hoping I get through this time!

I have been trying to get through to discuss an issue I have with the card that was sent to me. I filed in June, several weeks later got my letter of acceptance followed with the card. (all good so far) Then I sent the info. for direct deposit request but never heard a thing about it and the money is not going into my account nor the card! So then I did get info. on the automated 1-877 # that I did have some money (one week's worth when I've filed about 3, bi-weekly, times) but now the card cannot be used anywhere (Yes I did call and selected the pin # as directed and put it through the ATM to get a balance.) Tried to use the money for a purchase several times but was denied each and every time! Now I've been trying to call all of the numbers that have been listed to talk to a human being. This has not worked out too great! All I get is the beep beep of the busy signal! :( I'm hoping we can resolve this matter in a timely manner!

I also received no pin in the mail and they list no way to contact them other than phone and had no luck. I finally used the 717-787-7679 number and just followed the prompts till I was speaking to a human. She said that they regularly receive phone calls about unemployment claims but it's not in their division. HOWEVER, due to the frequency, they've been instructed to take the information down of individuals who contact them, pass it onto their manager who then sends it to the correct place. She said they'd be in touch within a day or two. Not an immediate answer, but better than sitting on hold for hours or hearing the busy signal.

Yes! You must talk to someone. I found this out the hard way while on EUC Teir 2. Filed my biweekly claim as normal and no money. Finally got through to the EU office and they told me I had to reapply since my year expired even though I was on Federal EUC. Would have been nice to find that out sooner than 2 weeks after my last payment. File for the next year with the state immediately when your year ends or you'll be waiting for over a month.

considering how long uneployment has been so high, there is no excuse for the understaffing by our state at this time. good way to keep unemployment figures low, just don't answer the phone and push claims out past the election to make the administration look good.

I called the local CareerLink office, as I was there a week ago. They have a phone that goes right through to the unemployment office (general). I called the Forest Hills office and spoke to the nice receptionist, explained my situation and said that I could use that phone to get through. Therefore, if you simply make the trip to your local CareerLink center (assuming that office also has a phone that gets right through to the Unemployment Office), then you should have no issues getting through to re-apply for benefits using their phone.

I agree with Matt though, maybe they should hire people to answer the phones so we can be part of the solution, not the problem.

I have received 2 notices of financial determination but no confirmation email; which means no PIN. I made my initial claim over a month ago on the internet. Under normal circumstances, i wouldve been able to make my bi-weekly claim starting last week if i'm correct. I have been trying to talk to a REAL person for at least 3 weeks and have had zero success. I am dirt broke right now with a stack of bills a mile high on my desk. This system is obviously not working, so what do they do? They lay off 75 employees at one of their call centers here in philly and god knows how many statewide this past July. I'm moving to Canada.

I had to wait about 45 minutes to use the phone as there is a lineup but once you get to the phone you get a rep withing 30 seconds. I would suggest going on a Wed or Thur they say lines mid week are best

WHAT A JOKE THIS IS!!!! I've been calling for the past three weeks with only busy signals. For some reason when I file my new claim I am not getting a confirmation email. I've tried the online filing system over 30 times with no confirmation. The 717 number is just a tax service center for employers. I spoke to the woman there and she said "there's nothing you can do here" "this is the tax service center". I've never experienced something so rediculous in my life. You can't help but wonder, with all the time we are spending getting busy signals, how much we could have got done in our job search. Now, with no money and bills piling up, this is how our state and government treats us. I payed 50% in taxes last year because my employer is a small business and my employer pays 25% in unemployment taxes, yet when someone gets laid off, the unemployment is not available to us.

I just filed for my biweekly claim and have not received payment. After unsuccessful attempts to speak to a human, I finally found a section on the PA website for claim status that indicates the following: "We are currently reviewing your eligibility for a new regular UC claim as required by law. You cannot continue to collect on this claim if you qualify for regular UC benefits. We will contact you if we need further information or if you need to file a new claim."

I've been collecting since October 2011 regular UC; EUC following that, and just received notice that I qualify for Tier 2. I'm so confused, what does this mean? How can they just stop payments without notice?

Like everyone here I cannot get anything but a busy signal. Was curious if anyone has or is experiencing the same issue as me? I am on Tier 1 EUC and after filing last Sunday I was only paid for one week, week ending September 29, but not for week ending October 6th. So far only paid for 15 of the 20 weeks of EUC Tier 1. Anyone know what might be happening?

Also, do you have to call the office to transition between tiers?

Thanks

I expected it to be a bit delayed becuase of the Columbus Holiday but still a week later, nothing?. I have been on Emergency UC since the end of August 2012, and should be receiving benefits until the end of December. I have been filing biweekly and have not missed any weeks. I am not working again, not even part time. I went to file my biweekly claim yesterday, and it says my claim is "inactive." I have NO IDEA why. I was already receiving it for like 8 weeks, so why would it all of a sudden go inactive?? My initial REA Assessment was scheduled in Sept, but I could not make it, so I called Careerlink and they rescheduled it, and I got an official letter from Careerlink stating my new assessment date is Oct 18th. The only thing I can think of is that somehow to UC offices think I just blew off the meeting, didn't realize it was rescheduled, and cut me off...I mean, why else would it go inactive?? Thoughts?

If you call right at 8 am and keep hitting redial you will eventually get through .. Although I was on hold for 2 hrs and 18 minutes ..

My question is simple really . They just used the last 2 weeks of a claim from 09 and now said they are putting me on EUC tier 1. And I should file 2 weeks from this past Sunday . So will there be a delay in the payment cycle ? Or will it come through as scheduled ?

Thanks in advance and I hope my insight about calling right at 8 am helps someone ... I used my headset and just went about my morning to help pass the time ... 2 hours is intense though.

I was called by someone from PUC regarding my claim and told to call back within 48 hours. All I was given was a first name and the 1-888-313-7284 number. How cruel is that? Of course, all I get is a busy signal. I can't even leave a message to indicate that I attempted to return the call.

Ok, for those close to Chester, they apparently have a phone in their office that goes DIRECTLY to unemployment. No ringing; you pick it up, and there is someone there at the other end. Now the line for this phone is. of course, ginormous. I actually called a state Rep's office and they took down my info and said someone from unemployment would be calling me back in 1 to 2 business days. We'll see how that goes, but the woman who I spoke with was wonderful and gave me her name. She said if I don't hear from them in a day or 2 to call HER back. Wish me luck!

I have been calling unemployment for 12 days and it is always busy no matter what time or how many hours I call. I need a medical release form because I had a c-section and am considered unavailable for work until the doctor releases me. I was told to call the day before the baby and have the form mailed out. Any idea where I can find this form on the website because I cannot find it there either. Thank you!

My question is regarding the company cutting my hours. I work 35 hours a week and was made aware that due to budget cuts my job might be eliminated all together or my hours cut back. I can not afford to have my hours cut back and on my job description it clearly states that my position is 35 hours a week.

If they cut my hours back I will need to find another job. What should I say if they cut my hours? Do I suggest for them to let me go so that I can collect unemployment while I hunt for a different job? Can they fight me on this by telling me that they will not lay me off and that I have to accept less hours or quit?

Obviously if I quit I will be in eligible for un employment but I can not afford to have my hours cut. Please advise me on what course of action to take when the time comes.

I tried Ext 9041 didn't work for me, neither did 9042, but 9040 did, took about 50 mins of wait time to get through, but it was worth it to hear anything other than a dial tone or a busy signal.

Neither 9040 nor 9041 worked, but 9042 did, and I spoke to a HUMAN after about 20 minutes of listening to Vivaldi over and over again.

Had to call back today, and had to add one more number. they will most likely change it again.

This is a disgrace. They need to change the system. I go to a walk-in office. The state needs to get their act together. It is worse enough that you get laid off. Now, you have to deal with peope who do not want to pay you money into something that you paid out of your taxes.

On average when I have to call and speak with some one at a UC Servise center, i found that i you just dial the number et te usy signal hang up and try again that it take about 4 to 6 seconds to do. With that in mind it took me more than 924 tries just to be ut n hold for anthor 2 and a half hours.

i have the eppicard am waiting on my first payment. I called the number to check my balance to see if i got paid & i didnt. So i called again later & my balanced changed to negative. I then called again & again on another number to try to talk to a person & each time my balance came up a different negative number. I was being charged for every call. The bank that they use is a sham. There is no number to call to speak to a human. the number on eppicards site will charge as well. I cant dispute the charges either because i cant talk to anyone. Talk about pouring salt on an open wound. So be careful guys. It turns out theres an issue & they need to make sure that my reason for termination is legit. They said it can take up to 4-6 weeks. My phone is being cut off today as well as my other utilities within the next week. These companies dont find 4-6 weeks accptable. This system sucks

We are having the same problem. The people who want us to pay our bills aren't going to wait til the unemployment office makes up its mind if it is going to pay us or not. With so many people on here not getting paid why are they complaining about not having enough money to pay unemployment?

Like many of you I have been trying for days to get through to someone. I finally got through on one of the 717 numbers but the lady told me it was for employers only. She did direct me to the uc.pa.gov website however, where you can download a fax cover sheet to explain your problem and list callback info. I'm going to try this now (fingers crossed), too bad they did such a great job of hiding it on their website - http://www.uc.pa.gov/portal/server.pt/community/claimants/20585

Good luck with the fax sheet. I faxed my Friday the 4th, and they are suppose to call you back within three days. Well they haven't called me and my claim is mysteriously missing from direct deposit. Hence no paycheck since December 19th.

I called this morning around 9am to find most numbers busy and then I dialed the Scranton number, even though I'm in the Phila area....It rang, but I was on hold for an hr, to the point that my cordless had to be switched because it was dying....I hung up frustrated, it's now 1:30 and I'm on hold again listening to this boring music, this has to be a joke....I filed two bi-weekly claims (total of 4 wks) so far and nothing is on my card....

I have an open claim since 9.30.2012. I have been trying to get through to someone who can help my case. I got through to someone today who was very helpful. She said my case was being processed in Scranton, even though I was working in Philadelphia. Whenever I call the Scranton office, I wait on hold for at least an hour, only to have someone pick up and say that they cannot hear me then dissconnect the call. This has happened to me at least 5 times now. There is nothing wrong with my phone. Has this happened to anyone else?

WooHoo - Another satisfied (717)425-2608 user here!! I dialed it as soon as my PC's clock flipped to 8:00am, just waited and dialed nothing when asked for an extension, and a real dude named Steve picked up IMMEDIATELY and helped me reopen my claim for a temporary layoff and was quite friendly and conversational. Total time on the phone was 4 minutes and 53 seconds - Thank you, Steve, and whoever first posted this wonderful number!

Today is Monday highest call volume to UC I called the toll free number(18883137284) for an hour it would ring once go right to busy or just be busy so I found this website and tried calling 717-425-2608 & they wanted a 4 digit extension so I just dialed 4 numbers until it connected me through to a rep that helped me reopen my claim. & @ DMC it is not a scam they had information about my last claim and the dates when I had started and stopped working. I tried to call that 888 number for an hour & reached no one but dialed the 717 number and a 4 digit ext and was off the phone in 10 minutes! Thank you so much I am so happy I didn't have to waste the whole week calling the 888 number just to get a busy signal!

717 425 2508 worked for me early this Monday morning. I am not normally a line jumper, I will take my turn, but the horror stories of busy signals for weeks made me scroll down to current experiences. I ignored the request for an extension and was taken care of, very professionally in minutes. It's a shame following the rules results in such shabby treatment! Busy signal! How quaint! Unless your finances depend on getting through!

I've been SO CONFUSED. I'm a student and was also working at my first serious job for the past 4 years, and just got laid off at the end of Jan. I filed for unemployment about 2 weeks after I got laid off. I received pay for 3 weeks after being laid off, then 2 weeks of vacation pay, THEN I got my severance payment. I didn't know if it was legal/correct to file a bi-weekly claim during these payments. I got 2 debit cards in the mail???? And a letter saying I was APPROVED w/a weekly amt. and everything. Right after I received my last severance payment from my employer, I got a letter in the mail that said to sign up for work search.

I signed up for the work search thing as soon as I received that letter. Then the next day I went online to file my first bi-weekly claim and it said my original claim was no longer open!!! Why in the world do they make this so complicated???!!

I'm computer-savvy and I am still so confused on this process. I've been trying to get through to them for two weeks.. I'm full time student so it's hard for me to call and stay on hold for hours when I have class.

Does anyone know if calling right at 8am helps?? And what's the BEST number?

Hello everyone, I called this number .1-888-313-7284 today, it's Tues afternoon almost 4pm, and I was on hold for quite a while but IT DOES CONNECT YOU TO AN AGENT.

I previously used the number 717-425-2608 and it worked, but now I tried it with all kinds of extensions and NONE worked. I think they got too many calls and cut it off. So annoying.

Good luck all!

CALL YOUR SENATOR! I have been dealing with UC issues for many years now. I am a school bus driver and need to reopen my claim each holiday as well as filing a new claim each summer. You can complain 'til the end of time on the seemingly endless blogs containing uc info but you will not find the result you are hoping for. The moment I began calling my reps, I no longer have to spend days hitting off, on, redial. Mike Brubaker is my senator and Tina in his Lititz office sends her uc liaison an email with my info and now uc calls me. Google your reps and make a few calls that you don't have to wait in que for. The only way the disgraceful uc customer service issues will ever be addressed is to inundate your local officials with phone calls. If they don't hear your concerns, they can't address them!
