Ohio Unemployment If You Get Fired

Generally, in Ohio you have to have lost your job through no fault of your own in order to collect unemployment.

In most cases, this means that if you get fired, you cannot collect unemployment benefits.

If you get fired from your job, you should go ahead and apply for unemployment benefits, because there are some cases where you can be fired from your job and still get benefits.

If you feel like you were fired unfairly, or there were extenuating circumstances, be sure to tell you unemployment counselor about them. If your unemployment application is denied because you were fired, you also have the right to appeal the decision.

Yes, the Ohio unemployment office, or any UI office for that matter, has the stated and implied policy of denying claims for any and all reasons. None of the UI agencies like to see ex-employees get a free paycheck. It is a psychological thing. And the more Republican the state is, the less likely you will get approved and even if you do it is likely the unemployment will be a pittance, will often be revoked for no reason in hopes you will just get too frustrated and quit applying, and will find new and creative ways to "deny" your claim. It is really pathetic. Sorry! Should you get it based on the facts you presented? Of course.

In Jan of 2013 medicaid revised the law that all assisted living employees had to get background check every 5 yrs, I had been in my asst living position for 18 yrs and had a incident which I pled no contest in 1996. It was still open in 2010 because I owed fines, but the case was closed. I was terminated because of this, I also revealed it to my employer when I had to go to court. My employer had to terminate me because of the law, I guess. My question is can I collect unemployment. I was an excellent employee with top evaluations for 18 yrs. There was never any complaints about my work and my attendance was excellent...Thank you

My employer terminated me based on a legit clerical error when I submitted payroll for my staff. They twisted the situation when they replied to the office of unempoloyment and said I admitted the mistake. I had told them my situation of not having my computer accessible and having to use an alternate method and an error occurred when I uploaded the spreadsheet. My employer told odjfs that I admitted the error due to being busy, which was not at all what I said. Am I out of luck here or is this standard? Also, this is my first round with unemployment. I was with the company for 10 years with no prior warnings about this.

I got fired because I got drafted to another department which resulted in a decrease in pay and a shift which does not allow me to attend to my father who needs my help due to medical needs. Can I draw unemployment for this?
