Ohio Unemployment Fraud Penalties

REMEMBER:

IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO WORK WHILE YOU ARE COLLECTING UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.

You are able to work at a job and make a certain amount of money while still collecting unemployment benefits. When you apply for unemployment, this amount will be determined, and how this works will be explained to you by your unemployment counselor.

ALSO REMEMBER:

IT IS A CRIME TO COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS WHEN YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THEM

If you willingly collect unemployment benefits when you are not eligible for them, and when you don't meet all the requirements - this is considered unemployment fraud and there are stiff penalties for committing unemployment fraud.

Unemployment Fraud Penalties include some or all of the following:

1. Fine. You may have to pay back the unemployment money you collected (this is called restitution) and pay a large criminal fine.
2. Jail. You may be sent to jail if you are found guilty and convicted of unemployment fraud.
3. Probation.

OMG - I didn't realize I am not eligable to collect unemployment benefits while working as a contractor. I understand you aren't eligable as soon as you recieve a permanent position. I've been claiming unemployment while I was a contractor at the same time for about 11 weeks. I'm freaking out. I've not applied for unemployment before so I had no idea as I would just breeze throught the weekly claim sheet. I always had a inkling it was not right so this week I was going to ask them but I got a notice just before. I filled the form out honestly and said I did work those weeks listed but I don't know what's going to happen now. I will pay it back. OMG how can I fix this?

hi i have my wife go online and fill out my ui form every week i left her instructions on how to fill them out since i now have a permanet job. i have noticed that i am still recieving a payment each week and found out that she was not adding the fact of how many hours i work each week and get paid. should i report this to ui or should i just start filling the form out correctly. And if i do inform them will i not be able to claim ever again if needed? this has only happened for two weeks. The reason she fills them out is because i work all weekend and she has access to a computer where she is employed. your answers will truly be appreciated.
