Ohio Unemployment Eligibility

In order to establish unemployment eligibility in Ohio you have to:

1. Be a resident of Ohio. If you are not a resident of Ohio, but worked in Ohio at your last job, you should still have Ohio unemployment eligibility.
2. Have worked and earned income in Ohio.
3. You must not be disabled.
4. You must be able to work.
5. You must be actively looking for a new job.
6. You must have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you quit your job or were fired for 'just cause' you may not be eligible to collect unemployment in Ohio. Every case is different, so if you lost your job -- be sure to apply to unemployment in case you are indeed eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

There are special rules that apply to unemployment elibility for military personnel and union workers, so check with your mility or union representative for these rules.

Can a person work a seasonal job (such as landscaping) and receive unemployment benefits during the winter months when he is not working? If not, then how is it that so many people do just that year after year? If it is illegal to receive benefits in a situation like this, are there any audit procedures in effect to prevent this? Thanks

Was questioning my un-employment eligibilty. Worked with a company for 22yrs. 1985-2007. Company closed the branch I worked at, so I took the buy-out. Was out of work for approx. 6 months before working again at another business. Stayed employed their for a year, before another oppurtunity came along. At this business though they had me work as a sub-contractor. They just announced that the work is slowing down, and my help would no longer be needed after 2+ years. What are my un-employment options. Send me info ASAP

i recently left a job in cincinnatti to return to arkansas. I never officially changed my residency due to family concerns. My questions are mainly whether or not I qualify for unemployment benefits and if I can proceed with the application process at a local Arkansas unemployment office

Thank you

I'm pretty sure you can't quit a job and expect to collect unemployment, that's not how it works.

my wife was put on a medical leave. She wasnt cleared to go back to work until 1-2 weeks after her six month short term disability/fmla had expired. Being after the fmla expired her employer said they would try to find her a position someplace else in the company, but she has no income coming in and no promise of a job. Would she be eligible for unemployment in Ohio?

I retired in November 2010 after over 30 years of service and lost my pension that I depended on in June 2011 due to company financial hardship. I am actively searching for a new job with no luck yet. Am I eligible for unemployment benefits until I find a new job?

I worked 10 minutes from my home 1-1/2 years ago, my employer closed the office that I was located at consolidating it with another. The other office is located 1-1/2 hours one way from my residence and my childrens schools. I have continued to commute because I like my job but it is putting a strain on me and my family. I have no time or energy for them because I am commuting 3 hours per day. If I quit now would I be eligible for benefits?

I have been unemployed for over a year. I worked at a job that I was part time on paper but working full time hours. This was great till I became pregnant. After having my baby I only wanted to work part time but they could not guarentee me - so I did not want a unprediciable schedule with a newborn at home. Do I qualify for unemployment now? I have been actively seeking new employment.

My father was fired from his job of 15 years for "creating a hostile work enviornment" which is not possible for my father. He has a mental condition to which he really cannot be around a lot of people for a long period of time. There was a situation with one of his higher ups one day at work and they fired him and on his papers for being discharged from his job it said he was creating a hostile work enviornment. What should he do? Would he even recieve unemployment? Any help would be greatly appreciated. He now has been without a job for 3 months and is getting ready to be evicted from his apartment.

He should apply. Usually they disqualify the if they were fired due to gross misconduct. If they knew of his "disability", he should file a claim under the EEOC for wrongful termination due to his protected class under ADA- Americans With Disabilities Act.

I have worked at the same company for almost 14 years. When I turned 62, I began working part-time (24/26 hrs. week)....and started to recieved Social Security benefits, keeping my yearly income under the ceiling you are allowed to make before paying anything back to SS. My question is, if I was terminated, would I qualify for unemployment benfefits until I found another part-time position?? Thanks.

The company I'm working for is merging with another. I've been employed with this company for seven years. My job will probably be terminated. I will be offerred an oppertunity to apply for a different position with a decrease in hourly pay. If I refuse the demotion would I qualify for Ohio unemployment benefits.

I have just notified one of the managers at my place of employment of sexual harrassment by the president of my company. I know he has notified their lawyer and he will be coming in sometime in the next few weeks. I have documented all of the incidents with dates and even the people I told after it happened. If this process goes badly can I quit and get unemployment? I am afraid that once my boss is approached it will get very uncomfortable for me to work there and have no idea what if any thing will be done about it. So I need to know if I have a fallback plan.

My husband has worked part time for a village since may of 2012. Even though he is only part time, he has wored anywhere from 39 hours to 50 hours in a week. The village is talking about laying him off for the winter, since work will be slow, wanting him to come back in the spring. Will he be able to collect unemployement benefits in the state of Ohio?

I worked 30 hrs a wk for 31/2 yrs. Now my employer wants me to work "on call" when needed.. They say the aren't firing me or laying me off. Because we are an "at will" state, I can not collect unemployment from them. Starting immediately. When I stated I couldn't afford to do this, she then started making accusations that they have been getting complaints from people about me. Then she said Since I was the highest paid, I was the one to be cut and Nikki would fill in for me when the needed. What can I do

I was employed for a couple years and I had a valid FMLA for my condition. Recently I was fired because I wasn't feeling well and called in sick. They said I'm calling in too many times sick but according to FMLA I can get up to 12 weeks of sick days, I only had 6 days this year so according to FMLA I was fired illegally. Can I apply for Ohio unemployment since I have to state that I have a physical disability? I can still work in places where I can sit (no physical exertion) but practically my condition is identified as a physical disability. So can I get unemployment while I look for another job?

Can unemployment be collected when a business moves your department to another city that is 45 minutes away? I have tried to keep my job for as long as I was able after they moved us from Alliance, OH to Kent, OH. I live in Beloit, OH. I am now without a car and do not know how I will manage to keep my job without transportation. I started with the company in Alliance near my home. When they moved our department to Kent I didn't think I had another choice but to come. Then they shut our department down here and I had to work at our Cleveland location in order to keep a job. I was then hospitalized which caused me to miss work. The Cleveland location fired me from my position and forced me into another. At that point I had to go back to the Kent store in order to have a job. I have done everything possible to keep this job but now am at a loss and do not know where to go from here. It is not feasible for me to get back and forth without reliable transportation, which I do not have, nor can I get at this point in time. Please advise

What happen is ...I applied at another job and got the job but I was going to work both places forawhile till I got enough hrs at new place of employment. One of the managers told me that they would work with me with other job, I go in today and they ask if I got the job, I said "YES", so she said well she has already got the schedule made out for next week but thats ur last week but I start 2 days training at my new job.
I was wondering if I could draw unemployment from a place I had worked at ...and pretty much they fired me ? for that reason?
