New Jersey Unemployment Office

Sometimes it is difficult to get through to the NJ unemployment phone number, or you have questions that the website just can't answer, so you have to go to talk to someone face to face at the NJ unemployment office.

There is probably a NJ unemployment office in your town or county. Most states have one in every county. Be prepared though. Many people are applying for unemployment at the same time, and your local New Jersey unemployment office could be very crowded, and you might have to wait in long lines in order to see someone.

Here are some tips when going to the NJ unemployment office:

1. Go early. Be there at least 1 hour before the office opens.
2. Dress appropriately. It will be very hot in the summer, and very cold in the winter. Dress appropriately for the temperature and time of year.
3. Pack a lunch. You will probably have to wait a long time in line, and will probably get hungry. Pack a lunch and bring lots of water to drink to stay hydrated.
4. Bring your medicine. If you take medications that you can't miss - make sure you bring all of the medicine that you will have to take for that day, just in case you are there all day long.
5. Bring a pen or pencil. You will need one to fill out the application and to take notes.

I did my weekly certification this morning 01/03/11 and typed in the wrong pin number because my home computer is broken and I have the pin# stored in that computer therefore I initially forgot my pin#. The system has locked me out and NO ONE has answered your phone systems all day on the various numbers listed. I need to reset my pin so I can collect my benefits, I will now be unable to pay my mortgage and incur other bank charges from bounced checks because I am unable to contact your offices. PLEASE HELP!!!!
Cheryl
Thank You

It's ridiculous to try and call to reach a live person. I constantly either get disconnected, the voice prompts don't work for English or Spanish, and I've called at least 6 or 7 different employment numbers to try and get through. Maybe since there's so many people unemployed, the unemployment office can afford to hire some more employees to work for them. Makes sense, right? Let's be realistic here.

I recently was laid-off in September 2012 and reopened a claim from October 2011. I have only been paid for 10 weeks of unemployment thus far. When I logged onto the internet to claim my additional 2 weeks, the website said that my benefit year has expired and to file a new one even though I had money left in my balance. Since I have worked in NYC since then, as well as moving to NYC in January 2012, the internet has not allowed me to file on the internet. Also, when I call the 1800 # for out of state residents, I can't use it because I still have a NJ area code for a cell phone. How do I get through if I don't have a landline. The NJ numbers don't even allow me to use a "call back" option like they did last year.

I would like to know with the holidays coming up, if I can get seasonal work for a couple months and I'm paid over 20% of my WBR, which means I would be using the PBR, will my WBR go back to what it is now once the job is over?

If you don't have a pin established, apparently you have no choice but to speak to a LIVE agent. That is the only answer! YOU CANNOT obtain a pin number on-line!!!!

Hi,

I just filed an NJ UI claim via the Internet, however, I wasn't prompted to set a PIN or the site displayed any information on how to obtain/reset a PIN. After filing the claim, unfortunately, I had to speak with someone at DOL to clarify my claim. When I called my local RCC number, I was asked for the PIN number. Thinking that I perhaps missed the PIN information while submitting the claim, I searched over the Internet looking for a way to recover it. However, after reading numerous posts, it is clear you're not given option to select a PIN when you file a claim over the Internet. Or have ability to recover/reset a PIN over the Internet. After playing around with number of different options on RCC call line, I was finaly able to get a PIN.

After calling RCC call line, I entered Continue Unemployment Benefit(option 3), and then entered my SS#. It recognized that I've not selected a PIN yet, and provided an option to create a PIN.

I hope this helps others since, unfortunately, NJ DOL is not able to provide clear and concise direction on this topic.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm thinking my God I must be so stupid. Tried to apply online, but keep getting messed up by the pin #. Tells me the one I used is not the one they have. So when I use that one the info comes up with my name, but my husband birth date & ss#. I was laid off Jan 7th. Getting very frustrated. Good luck to you. Going to try by phone again tmo, since anyone can call on Fridays. Most likely more frustration.

What's said is that NOBODY gives a darn about folks who is trying to claim their rightful benefits. This is why we can't not allow Christie back into ofice... This system was never this jacked up before and I understand about Sandy they must be kidding.. I woke up early dialed the number 7:30 automatic system with the lies of already being overloaded due to Sandy held on the phone for 1.20 mins and a system tells me I can get a call back within 1.20 mins and I was like they can't be real.. This system is full of shit

I share the same experience/frustration most of the people here have. I filed for a claim and the claim status says the money was paid. It has been 8 business days and I have not received any money into my bank account. I applied for direct deposit. When I tried to contact the unemployment office by phone, the line said the "wait time is 3hrs" - I guess this is to discourage people from calling. However, I waited patiently for 4 hrs putting my phone on the speaker just to make sure that my theory is correct "No one will ever answer any of the numbers provided".
I am thinking of going directly to an unemployment office to find out what the hell happened to the money that is "paid"???? This is insane.

As the person above 'JustTryingToHel p' mentioned, when you call your local UI #, you have to select option 3 (Continue Unemployment Benefits). Selecting this option will let you create a PIN. Once you create your PIN, wait 24 hours before accessing the website again. Once you login the next day and enter your newly created PIN, you will be able to claim your benefits online. Once completed, you will receive notification in the mail for the next step. Hope this helps.

I am trying to claim my bi-weekly claim and its going through fine but up until the last question where it says "Type in the date you have returned to work, (if you have not returned to work, skip question number 5, so i do so and it will not allow me to submit the claim unless i fill the return to date. But i am still laid off so what do i put down? I tried to put down the future date of when i will be returning to work in 2 months but says i cannot put future date so i put the date of when i started work with this company 9 months ago and still doesnt work. I even put the date that i got laid off and still does not work. What do i do? also i was supposed to get my benefit for the first time on Wednesday and never got the money. Help?

On my last unemployment Insurance Benefits payment 83.6% of my gross payment was garnished. Based on my findings this is significantly higher than what is allowed in the state of NJ and is ILLEGAL! I have called many times at all times of the day for several days and have never been able to reach anyone. I also have not found any place online to report this. Please help.

I tried to file for bi-weekly unemployment on July 28th and for some reason the site kept going off the screen. I could not retrieve the site again on Monday so I decided I would call but the phone call was interrupted and I couldn't get through. So this morning I went line again and they are telling me that my claim is not payable at this time. I have a part time job that I have been claiming and I have had no luck trying to talk to a human being. I don't know why I was denied this payment. I can't sit on the phone all day and most of the time I am getting home from work a little too late for a response. Could you please help me or direct me to someone that could help me Thank you for your time.

As a tax paying american for over 40 years being in the workforce I never expected to be let go from the job id held and been loyal to this company for over 20 years , but it happened ! I gave my all to them and 2 years before im ready to retire they " had to let me go" .Where is the loyalty ? I gave my heart and soul to this company i worked hard for them everyday , for what to be thrown away like trash ! Now im not only struggling to find a decent paying job but any job at all, at my age no one wants to hire me .But thats AMERICA NOW !
Anyways this whole unemployment in the State of NJ is A JOKE !!! I had to wait 4 weeks to speak to a claims examiner to even start getting my benefits ! Tyring to call these people or shall i say machines is a instant threat to my health blood pressure rising i feel like im ready to have a nervousbreak down .I wanted on the phone one day for 2 hours only to be hung up on !!! yes hung up ,next day I opted to "recieve a call back" what a lead of SHIT that is they will call you and then they will hang up on you after you dial 1 , mine you i only waited for 5 hours YES 5 HOURS to get my call back .Next day i am on hold again 3 hours finally get a LIVE PERSON , whom was one of the most rude insensitive people i have ever spoken to in my life !! WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO EXPLAIN WHY I NEED THE MONEY BACK THAT IVE BEEN GIVING THEM FOR 40 YEARS !!! I WAS LET GO FROM MY JOB AND I NEED MY YES MY DAMN MONEY THAT I NOT THEM WORKED FOR !
So then these shady and conniving immoral scum of the earth (nj unemployment) decides to send me a letter to go to a workshop okay thats fine i will go but i want to go in the county i live in not an hour away ,so as it says in the paper i email to reschedule to a new location.BAD IDEA THE RETARDS THEY HAVE DOING ALL THE RESCHEDULING WHOM MOST LIKELY DIDN'T EVEN GRADUATE FORM HIGH SCHOOL ARE WORTHLESS LYING PIECES OF SHIT HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THEIR JOB ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER PERSON THIS SAD SAD STATE HAS WORKING FOR THEM.BUT ANYWAYS THIS EVIL CUNT EMAILS ME MONDAY MORNING AT 12 OCLOCK AND WANTS ME THERE THE SAME DAY AT 2 OCLOCK REALLY YOUR GONNA GIVE ME A 2 HOUR NOTICE TO GO TO THIS WORKSHOP AS IF I CHECK THESE DAMN COMPUTORS EVERY HOURS ON THE HOURS PLEASE !!
