How to Reopen an Existing New Jersey Unemployment Claim

It may become necessary for you to reopen an existing New Jersey unemployment claim if you suspend or cancel your unemployment because you found a job, and then later became unemployed again.

Generally, you can reopen an existing unemployment claim by simply filing a weekly certifcation online or by phone -- just like you did every week when you receiving unemployment previously.

In some cases, it may be necessary to speak to an unemployment counselor or start the process all over again in order to reopen an existing unemployment claim in New Jersey. If this is the case, contact your unemployment counselor to get exact instructions on how to proceed.

I have worked for a company for 6 weeks and due to misrepresentati on of certain facts I cannot disclose in this forum that are preventing me from being competitive and potentially put me in a position of representing a product that has risk exposure for my clients, for my industry credential that I hold, I am considering resigning. How does this affect my eligibility for unemployment if I have cause for resigning.

I was on partial unemployment, now, lost my job. I tried to file for full benefits online and phone. Online will not let me apply, and after waiting 11/2 hours on the phone, I was disconnected, hung up on and told I was to call back at different times and days, in which I did, to no avail. I have been steadily employed for 50 years and a veteran also! Extremely frustrated!! I was also told they would call me back, they did, and when I finally got to speak to someone, they put me on hold and I was disconnected again!! I was fired due to my age,I worked at a family restaraunt for 18 years, which is now a night club, geared to a younger crowd. How can I get through to a human being at the unemployment agency?

My daughter was on unemployment last year but found a temporary government job before collecting her full unemp benefits. The govt job ended and she was told she had to reopen her existing claim and complete that one before she would be able to collect under her new salary. She was able to reopen her old claim and submit but she received a notice today (7/3) telling her she could start claiming her benefits on 7/2. She tried calling the number on the notification letter, the recording said the call volume was high and she should try online. She tried that and the message came back and said she had no benefits available. Does she really have to reopen the old claim and collect less money since her salary was lower? Can't she just open a completely new claim?

I am currently collecting NJ Emergency Unemployment Tier 1, and might have the opportunity to work fulltime for a 6 Month period in NYC. Do I just continue to claim bi-weekly, and tell them what wages I made and say I am Parttime, and when the job is done in 6 months just return back to collecting as usual? OR is there a procedure I need to follow to suspend my claim and reopen it in 6 months? ** Will this be a problem to re open a NJ EU claim AFTER 6 months of working in NYC? Does anyone have a phone number for someone I can talk to about this? Or should I visit my local UE Office? Thank you.

I lost my job back in December 2012 due to stress at my place of employment, which left me to resign from my job. I was really stressed out & depressed about filing for unemployment. I did have a phone hearing with a deputy, received a letter in the mail saying I was denied. When I resigned, my boss told me they would approve the unemployment. When I received the letter of deniel, I contacted my boss & was told no one contacted him. I have no idea how the procedure works regarding unemployment contacting my employer. I did file an appeal but then cancelled it because I thought I was not going to win. So now I am thinking I should of not cancelled it because I worked for my company for 8 years and now I am still unemployed. My question is, can I reopen the claim after I cancelled the appeal? I should of thought of this more before I cancelled my appeal. I am trying so hard to find employment but have been unsuccessful in doing so.

Thank you
