I have been unemployed since March 14, 2010. I believe I can receive a maximum of 99 weeks of benefits. I just found out that I may have a opportunity to go back and work for my previous employer on an hourly bases (instead of an annual salary) for 4-5 weeks. My questions is: Can I suspend my unemployment and reactivate it when my project is over, if this hourly job ends?

I have been on unemployment benefits since March 2010. I am considering starting my own company. How does that work? Will I lose my benefits as soon as I register my company or as soon as I begin to make money from it?

Hello. I was just reading your post and the same thing happened to me. I'm not sure if this is your initial filing but give them a call because more than likely a substantial amt of time will pass before you hear from them. This msg could mean that there are some things that they may have to verify before they process your claim. In my case they had denied my benefits but it was only when I called them that I found this out. The key to calling and actually getting through is to call back to back when you get the msg of the volume of calls. I hope that this help you and you don't have to face what I'm facing. Be blessed.

I collect a pension from the state of NJ (PERS) I worked after that for the Federal Government and got laid off. I am being told that since I contributed less than 100% to my NJ pension the unemployment I received is reduced by 50% of the amount of pension I receive. Can NJ reduce your unemployment if it is based on wages from a federal government agency job just because youare receiving a NJ pension?

Hi, I was supposed to file a claim for my benefits when I get laid off but when I called they said I claimed my weekly benefits December 25, 2011. I never called and I wasnt supposed to claim weekly benefits because I started working. Now what should I do, should I call or go in person because I never called myself? Seems to be liked someone called claiming to be me.

If you re-open a past claim, how do you get the benefits? I was told over the phone that NJ Unemployment no longer issues paper checks. Would they just direct deposit money into your account or do they send you some sort of money card? Also, how do you pay bills with a money card?

I was collecting unemployment for 8 weeks. Found a job, during the interview discussed pay. Received email of what rate of pay will be. Was paid $1 less per hour in error, was told it would be corrected-never has been, won't discuss. Also employer has me working 48-50 hours per week and does not allow me to leave for lunch, I have to eat while I am working at my desk. Was told last week "be happy you are working". If I quite, can I reopen my claim and will it be approved?

I've been collecting benefits without a issue,I wanted to ask if it was possible to collect weekly instead of bi-weekly.it would be much easier for me to manage my bills and responsibilitie s every week instead of twice a month.if I can do this,I would like to know how to do it properly,so I don't have any confusion,or cause grief for anyone working at the unemployment center..I apprecieate any guidance I can get...thank you.

They told me when doctor clears me for work, I will have to reopen my unemployment claim. I don't wanna stress while I'm trying to heal from surgery. Will I be able to go back on unemployment till December unless of course I find a job? Please I need to know and thanks!!

You can try filing online if you meet the requirements listed:

If not, you will need to call and file over the phone.

I have been denied continuation of unemployment benefits because a temporary agency I briefly worked with charged me with misconduct for allegedly not calling to say I was available for work. It has been 6 weeks since I had a phone call with NJ unemployment office and STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A LETTER OF DETERMINATION, but I HAVE BEEN DENIED BENEFITS! I made it clearto the employer that I was available for work, so the claim was nonsense. I think NJ has exceeded the time alloted to provide me with a letter of determination (without which I don't even have the right to APPEAL!!!! I have used all my savings and owe 600 to PSEG and various other bills. Please what rights do I have?

I worked in NJ for a company for 6 1/2 years. July 2011 I was offered a transfer to a new plant in VA for the same company.

I've been working in VA for 18 months and the company just folded, ceased operations.

Can I collect unemployment from NJ or am I only allowed to collect from VA?

Total time worked for same company...8 years.

Sorry for the long message.

I work on a farm so every winter we are laid off and start working again once there's work to do.
I re opened last years claim when I was laid off. That claim was started on 01/01/2012 so I am assuming it was supposed to end on 01/01/2013. I claimed a couple weeks in December but when I tried to claim on 12/30/2012 for the week ending 12/29/2012 I was told that my benefit year has ended and I needed to open a new claim or something to that effect.
I don't know how to collect my benefits for that week.

I opened a new claim that day and I can't claim any benefits until 01/16/2013 which I assume will be for weeks ending 1/5/2013 and 1/12/2013.
I doubt they'll pay for the week on my old claim under my new claim.
Any suggestions?
I tried calling several times and after pressing 2 for problems with collecting benefits it tells me they cannot take my call because of hurricane Sandy.

Will they straighten it out if I drive there? My "local" UI office is 45 minutes away and I really can't afford to waste all that gas if I get there just to be turned away.

I have a NJ claim that was opened on Nov 4th and i was receiving benefits. I moved out of state in Dec and changed my address as instructed. Since then my claim has been "pended" and I have not received my benefits in several weeks now. When trying to call the out-of-state number 888-795-6672 no one ever picks up and I eventually just keep getting disconnected. I do not see anything on the NJ web site that provides any guidance. Is this delay normal or should I be appealing my claim

I work nights so there are no daycare open to cover my hours. Now I can not afford to provide for myself and children. Would I be able to quit my job and move to PA with my fiance and collect unemployment till I find another job in PA.

I've filled for unemployment benefits in the beginning of December of 2012. We are going on Februrary and still have not received anything. I have done my appointment over the phone and the gentleman said my previous employer had 48hrs to respond to my statement and that he would be contacting me with results. If I did not hear from him I should expect funds to go into my account automatically. It's been well over 48hrs, I haven't heard anything nor have I received anything in my account. I try checking my "Claim Inquiry" online, but it has no helpful information. Is there a general time period in which this process can take? Does it usually take 2 months (or longer)?

I have just applied to start a small business in NJ. I have used my personal money and some unemployment money that I am collecting from a claim on my regular job in the union. I am going to be making some money from my new business soon. It is a very small amount. I would like to know how I show the State that I am recouping my out of pocket money first, not paying myself or collecting any money for profit yet, so I can continue to collect from my unemployment claim from my regular job? This is the money my family lives on right now. I am sure you understand what I am asking. For the first few months, I will just be paying myself back what I already put out. I will not make a profit for a while and I should still be able to collect from my union job. When they call me for a job, I will be going back to work for them immediately and putting this small business on hold. Please let know what I can do? Thank you so much. Frank

I got fired from my job for what is considered a serious incident, however this incident was not willfull, it truly was accidental. I worked for this company for 20 yrs without any incidents in the past, and even received special commendations for work well done. Can I still receive unemployment benefits if the seperation of work was caused by my actions but it was not wilfull?

I am trying to claim my unemployment benefit on line today (4/30/2013). I got the message that the benefit year on my unemployment claim dated 4/29/2012 was expired. My last claim was on 4/16/2013 ( for weeks ending 4/6/2013 thru 4/13/2013). I saw that I should have claim balance $2,444 after the claim on 4/16/2013. Am I still entitle the balance? If yes, how can I claim the remaining balance? Thanks.

I have 2 questions.
1. How do i know if i will be available for an extension?
2. I have a 4 yr degree and i want to obtain my teaching certificate. If I am available for an extension will this impede my extension?

Hey,
I am currently a full-time student working park time. I am only getting 20hrs a week and am pretty much struggling. I was wondering if I would be able to get partial unemployment or anything at all to help me out.

Hello, I successfully appealed my claim and have approximately 16 weeks of benefits due. I received my appeals determination on May 13th. On May 31st the Unemployment Office faxed my determination to the adjudicator to have my funds released to me. I haven't received them yet. What is the normal time frame on this? Is there anyone I can contact to check on the ETA -- the office in Hackensack told me there was no way to check.
--- Thanks

So I claimed my benefits for the first time on June 17th, 2013. I claimed them again yesterday seeing as it was 2 Sundays from original claim. I did move out of state to North Carolina between the 17th & 30th of June. I tried numerous (talking 30+ times) to call the number to report out-of-state move but EVERY SINGLE TIME it rang busy. So when I claimed yesterday, I checked yes for change of address and also filled out new address. When I submitted the claim, I noticed it had $0.00 amount I was due for the weeks I claimed for which was odd because when I claimed for the first time last week, in that same spot it had showed how much I would receive. Not sure if this was a glitch or something? Anyway, it concerned me since it was only my 2nd time claiming. I did a claim inquiry today and the following message sat above all my infortmation:

Your claim has been pended. Please call a Claims Agent at 732-761-2020, 201-601-4100, or 856-507-2340. If you reside out of state, please contact a Claims Agent at 888-795-6672. Claims Agents should be contacted during our normal business hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

I've tried calling several times to each of these numbers and everytime after a long waiting process of having to hear recorded voice, they connect me to talk to someone but then it says it's too busy, they tell me the list of numbers to call and then the call is dropped. Can someone PLEASE help me? Thanks so much in advance, I truly appreciate it.

I encountered the same situation on 7/1/13. I live in PA but i am collecting from NJ. After changing my address during the claim i received a message saying that my information will need to be reviewed before payment can be processed and that upon review, i may be contacted. I did not receive any payment and i am wondering how long the review will take. This is my 4th claim. I believe this happens whenever there is address change as i have seen similar posts however nobody had an answer as to how long it took to receive the payment.

My husband and I have had a small landscaping business for several years and neither of us have ever taken a salary from the business. My husband recently had to go on permanent disability and the business is now in my name. In addition I have had a full time job that I was recently downsized from. I am collecting unemployment. Is this ok to collect or do I need to report the business even though I don't receive an income from the business?
