Mississippi Unemployment Requirements

In order to start your unemployment, MS unemployment requirements include the following:

1. You are totally unemployed. Depending on your vocation and industry, you may qualify for unemployment if you have had your hours reduced.
2. You have worked and earned a minimum amount of wages in work covered by unemployment tax during the past 18 months.
3. You have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you were laid-off you will qualify for unemployment. In most cases, if you were fired for cause - you will not be eligible to collect unemployment. If you were fired for cause, you SHOULD apply for unemployment anyway, just in case you are eligible to get it.
4. You are able and available for work. If you are unable to work because of disability or medical condition, you may not meet the Mississippi unemployment requirements, but you should apply anyway. If you are not eligible for unemployment, you may be eligible to collect disability benefits, and the case worker at the unemployment office will be able to direct you on how to apply for disability.
5. You are registered for work at your local Workforce Development Center. You must do this when you apply for unemployment, and every week when you certify your weekly claim.
6. You are actively seeking work. You must apply to a minimum of two jobs per week.

To continue receiving weekly unemployment benefits, MS unemployment requirements state that you must file a 'weekly claim' by doing the following:

1. Meet all of the MS unemployment requirements listed above.
2. Apply for at least two jobs each week.
3. Contact the Mississippi unemployment office to file your 'weekly claim'. You can do this via phone or on the internet.

I've been employed with a company for almost 5 years. Over the last four months I have been put on several types of medication for depression. Recently, I was put on another medicine for low thyroid. I am out of sick days & vacation as of now, but still go days where I am very depressed & all I can do is sleep. The doctor said it will take awhile for my thyroid medication to take affect and help with these symptoms. I am under alot of stress with work, because I know I am hanging by a thread because of the illness. Its uncontrolable. Also, it is effecting my work duties feeling this way. If I was to be fired or quit because the situation gets worse, would i be eligible for unemployment until my medication gets my problems under control?

I started having seizures a year ago and have been trying to work even though having the seizures. I have been seeing doctors and no one could figure it out.I had a seizure at Lowe's at the end of April I was told not to come back till find out why this going on because of liability. I received no pay or benefits from them during this time of them telling me not to come back. I went to a cardiologist a couple of weeks ago and he stated i have cardio syncope I can not stand for long periods of time because my blood not pumping to my heart it is pooling in my legs.I told lowes this and they were not happy I told them I couldnt work as a cashier and had to quit.
I cant pay my medical bills we have been surviving off of my husband working over time but they cut it off could I be eligible for unemployment
