Michigan Unemployment Office

Sometimes it is difficult to get through to the MI unemployment phone number, or you have questions that the website just can't answer, so you have to go to talk to someone face to face at the MI unemployment office.

There is probably a MI unemployment office in your town or county. Most states have one in every county. Be prepared though. Many people are applying for unemployment at the same time, and your local Michigan unemployment office could be very crowded, and you might have to wait in long lines in order to see someone.

Here are some tips when going to the MI unemployment office:

1. Go early. Be there at least 1 hour before the office opens.
2. Dress appropriately. It will be very hot in the summer, and very cold in the winter. Dress appropriately for the temperature and time of year.
3. Pack a lunch. You will probably have to wait a long time in line, and will probably get hungry. Pack a lunch and bring lots of water to drink to stay hydrated.
4. Bring your medicine. If you take medications that you can't miss - make sure you bring all of the medicine that you will have to take for that day, just in case you are there all day long.
5. Bring a pen or pencil. You will need one to fill out the application and to take notes.

I was wondering if I'm still eligable to recieve the remainder of my unemployment benifits if I took a job and quit a week and a half later? The employer did nothing but harass me the whole time I was there, he was rude to me in front of customers, he humiliated me every chance he got, and he started out paying me minimum wage, but then it went to a salary that was less than minimum wage. $400 for 52.5 hours of work.It should have been $435, I know it doesn't sound like a lot of money, but he was going to steel approx. $1820 a year from me. Thats a lot of money!. Not to mention the lunch breaks were supposed to be a half hour long, but with his ranting and raving my lunch breaks all got cut short, but still I got docked the whole half hour, this can be verified by my time cards. This man should not be an employer, as he treats all his employees like this.

I am trying to apply for underemployment as my job has gone from 37.5 hrs / week down to 7-10 hrs and some weeks no work at all. I tried applying online on the unemployment website but the questions are specific to being completely unemployed, such as "last day worked?". Since I am still working I didn't know how to answer this so I cancelled my application. I tried calling the phone # many times and have never gotten through. Can I just apply for unemployment even though I am still working? Or is there another way to file for underemployment ? How do I answer the question of "last day worked"? Thank you so much for your help.

“I am calling from ACSI, a not-for-profit organization with HQ in Colorado. We have employees in your state. Can you tell us if we are exempt from unemployment? If we are exempt, can you provide confirmation? If we are not exempt, are we at least registered in your state? If we are not registered, how do we do that?”

Thank you for your assistance!
