Michigan Unemployment Insurance

Unemployment insurance is a program that all employers pay into, in order to provide unemployment insurance benefits to displaced workers when they lose their jobs.

These temporary unemployment insurance benefits include:

1. Weekly unemployment check.
2. Job-hunting preparation.
3. Job retraining - if you qualify.
4. Access to computers and fax machines to help you in your job search.
5. Access to an unemployment counselor to help you find a job and other resources and services that you might need.

Unemployment insurance is meant to provide temporary help to people who have lost their jobs until they are able to find a new job. While finding a new job is the goal, and it is taking people longer and longer to find a job these days, unemployment insurance eventually runs out -- it is not an unlimited benefit.

I have been given a letter by my employer that states i am temporarily suspended. It does not have a return date. When asking my boss how long, he keeps saying he will let me know. I have been employed there for 15 months. I feel he is putting off the enevidable by stringing me along so he doesnt have to say i am fired which would allow me to collect unemployment benefits.. he has mentioned before that he never wants someone to be able to collect as he doesn't believe in it. I don't know if I should be looking for another job, but in the meantime I am a single parent and cannot go with out any pay. Would I qualify for unemployment benefits?

I am a full time status worker that is working but not full time. I applied for unemployment to buffer the wages I have lost due to loss of hours. My work will be picking up soon and I will no longer need it. I have 2 questions....1st do I need to actively prove I am looking for a job since it is temporary and 2nd my hours change from week to week. Can I get the unemployment on weeks I dont work but not on the ones I do?

I filed claim for unemployment on 8/9/13 and have not heard and or received a decision on my claim. What is the expected time frame in which a person should receive decision and how will it be communicated (i.e. mail, e-mail,) ?
