Can you please tell me what to do, i have been collecting on my previous job, after 6 months I trained as a server for 9 hours, and the end, there was a test, to see if you are hired, before leaving, the proceed to tell us that we have to carry 6 dinners on a tray. I am not able to carry that, I am 5 2, and 110 lbs. So I never went back. About 3 months later I get a 60 dollar check for training, meanwhile I am collecting unemployement, because I did not work there. After 8 months I get a letter saying that I may be disqualified for unemployment because I quit the job. how can you quit if you were never hired? Please let me know what I can do, maybe I shouldn't train anymore.

I took a Medical Leave on Oct.13,2010 to have surgery for carpal tunnel. At the time of the leave I was a full time employee with benefits. Two weeks into the leave I was notified that my hours were cut and I was now part time with no benefits. I applied for Under employment benefits and now they say I may not qualify. Please help me to understand this. Thank you

I have been working abroad for 15 years. I moved back to Michigan and worked for the last 14 months. This week I lost my job. I am trying to understand why I cannot file for a claim. At this rate my savings it could be very possible that my savings will run out until finding new employment. I have no debt, l never been employed in 20 years of work history. After so many years gone i am lost as to what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

I still have not received benefits. I filed on June 3, 2011 and went to Michigan Works (later than I was supposed to by several weeks). Have been calling MARVIN every two weeks as instructed. I think my employer might not have reported me being laid off when they should have. I was laid of due to lack of work but gven 30 days to find another full-time position. There were none. I was contacted two weeks AFTER that period and asked if 'I' wanted them to close me out of the system!!! I still don't know if I have been.

I recently was told by my employer, that my job was being eliminated, and I could work in another department. However, the times I would have to work would not be the same as the times I have been working, and are not hours I can work. Would I still be able to collect unemployment benefits?

My employer called me while I was in the hospital demanding a doctors note be sent to him before returning to work. A reduction in hrs was recommend. My employer called and said it would be best if I stayed home after being released to return to work. I filed for unemployment and my employer lied and said I unavailable to work due to a medical condition and said I was untruthful about the reason for separation, I chose laid off. I was called the third week off when the office was closed for the week for thanksgiving to return to work. I provided my employer with another note from primary care Dr and told him I had to have a physical by March 1 and would be re-evaluated at that time its been three weeks and he's already asking for another Drs note. When is this considered a hostile work environment??? How many times does my employer expect me to go to the Drs.

I have recently received benefits for unemployment and tried to take a new position in sales. I have not made anywhere near what I was making in wages, and have spent more money than really what I have coming. The position is completely commissioned based. Is my claim completely null and void now? Is there a grace period to try a job or supplemental income that unemployment offers?

I was working for an assisted living company for 6 months. My last two months there I found out I was pregnant and was put on restrictions because I was a care associate which involved a lot of lifting and physically movement. I was already being trained to be a medicinal technician when I found out. Regardless, I was fired for a no call no show which was not the case. The state of Michigan said that I was not found guilty of trying to harm the company or any type of misconduct. I gave the company a notice ahead of time that I could not work a certain day. but they insisted that I had a and call no show. The state of Michigan said that this does not disqualify me from benefits. I am a certified nursing assistant, but because of my restrictions I cannot do any lifting. After informing the state of Michigan this, they told me I had to have a medical statement stating this. Which I provided for them, however, they said that since I cannot perform my certified or licensed job, I am unable to work full-time. I don't believe that just because I am pregnant and on restrictions that I should be denied. I protested it and am still waiting for a reply, but have not heard nothing yet. I don't know if I am wasting my time trying to argue my point. Someone please help!

You should have your eligibility letter with the weeks you are eligible for. Count from there and apply for an extension the week you run out of eligibility.

I sent in a precision of wages close to 2 months ago and still haven't heard anything back. I had heel surgery and was off work for 6 months when I went to go back they didn't have room for me, even though they said my job would be there when I was done with my surgery. I have been doing everything I was told to do from you guys but still haven't heard anything. Every time I call down to the unemployment office they say they're not taking phone calls at this time please try again later. I don't have enough money to drive all the way out to Mount Clemens or Saginaw which is the closest office around here. Please contact me ASAP to help me. Thank you very much.

You have to call several times in a row (like 8 to 10 back to back--- it's a numbers game) and then it will say all agents are busy, please hold for the next available. Always works for me.

I might have to start collecting unemployment soon. I have recently started receiving (VRAP) benefits from the military. Does this effect benefits with Michigan unemployment? The VRAP site states to check with your State unemployment to see if it matters. The money I will be receiving is for veterans rehire assistance and is going towards college tuition.

Today is 03/04/13 & I was suppose to start a new job, I am currently collecting unemployment, certified this morning for for my prior 2 weeks of benefits & would have called again in 2 weeks but instead of certifying I would have given a return to work date.

Anyway, I am ill & wasn't able to report for my first day. This position was obtained through a temp/contract provider and when the job was offered to me I asked that a medical issue; one in which the contract house was aware I'd been dealing with for months, and that would effect my ability to perform certain requirements of the position, be addressed with the employer prior to finalizing the arrangement. I felt it only right to inform them as there could be another candidate they would prefer in light of the information.

I sent the recruiter an e-mail stating my diagnoses and indicating how they might effect certain aspects of my ability to perform. The recruiter phoned me back, said something about the HIPA laws & that it wasn't necessary that I divulge. It didn't seem to make a difference that it was my preference, and I'm sure that was due to the recruiter not wanting to potentially lose the chance to profit. It was made clear to me that if I didn't accept the position it would be necessary to inform MI UIA of my decision. I was not saying I wouldn't accept, only that the employer be given the information so they could make the decision that best suited them.

So, if someone has a disability that LIMITS the type of work they can perform, but doesn't necessarily negate them from work altogether how does MI UIA handle this? Can I protest the possible loss of benefits based on this scenario? I realize I will have the inability to report to work today to contend with, but feel that the prior knowledge on the part of the recruiter and my concern with the issue are important facts for me to have/use when I am trying to have my benefits reinstated.

Anyway, I accepted the interview without much concern or with too many questions in part due to the benefits requirements to be seeking work, but also because the position is one that would normally be sedintary. It was during the interview I was informed as to how my position would be performed and it was then I realized my condition could be one for cause or concern, but I wasn't sure if I should broach the medical matter then or if it would be more prudent to wait until an actual offer was made. Now I am looking at losing my benefits because I didn't seek advice from the recruiter prior to a hypothetical situation becoming real. I just didn't want it to seem as if I was doing everything I could to remain unemployed and felt that discussing the limitations with the recruiter and requiring that the potential employer be made aware of them; simply upon request to attend an interview, would leave just that impression.

Any information or direction you might be able to supply will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I'm in a job now that ends in a couple weeks -- have been here for well over a year continuously. I can switch to a temporary project with another employer that is likely to last about 10 weeks. Obviously, if I stay where I am, I'll get laid off in a couple weeks and be eligible for unemployment. What happens if I take this other project and -- as anticipated -- get laid off from that employer after about 10 weeks? Would I lose my unemployment eligibility? Same compensation rates for both jobs.

I retired from a public school and receive a small pension. The school district then contracted with a private firm to have me come back to work. (The private firm pays me.) Due to consolidation of services, the job is ending now. Will I be eligible to receive unemployment benefits while I look for other work?
