Maryland Unemployment If You Get Fired

Generally, in Maryland you have to have lost your job through no fault of your own in order to collect unemployment.

In most cases, this means that if you get fired, you cannot collect unemployment benefits.

If you get fired from your job, you should go ahead and apply for unemployment benefits, because there are some cases where you can be fired from your job and still get benefits.

If you feel like you were fired unfairly, or there were extenuating circumstances, be sure to tell you unemployment counselor about them. If your unemployment application is denied because you were fired, you also have the right to appeal the decision.

While working for a large office supplies company, we are required to recruit new customers to sign up for our free store membership. During each transaction rang up on the register, it records whether or not a membership was used during each purchase. Unlike most other companies and stores, my particular store did NOT have a store membership card. I was completely unaware of this, but when a customer did not use their membership card or number- I just used the store card/number; NOT thinking anything of it, because most stores I have shopped at use a store card... Anyways, out of the blue - The Lost Profit Manager showed up, interrogated me, accused me of trying to benefit from using the store card... and at the end realized that, this was not my intention. I only used the store card when a customer did not have one, but this was the only benefit that I sought out. I was told to hand in a written statement, Not to collect any of my belongings, and to clock out and not return back to work until they closed the case, which could take up to 72 hours. I received No call at the end of this time frame, so I called my store manager and then he informed me that I no longer had a job there.
I was never told whether or not that our store did or did not have a STORE MEMBERSHIP CARD, and was not told NOT to use the store phone number, but I was fired for using this phone number... Does this qualify for unemployment? I was never given the information about whether or not I could do so.

I was suspended for mental reasons with the expectation that my job was being held for me. After keeping in contact I was informed that I could not return

When you get fired do the employer have to tell you why? And do they have to give you something in writing? And do i have to wait for payday to get my last check?
