Illinois Unemployment Extension - EUC08 Tier 2

Tier 2 EUC08: 14 week maximum unemployment extension.

If your Illinois unemployment benefits run out you might be eligible to receive extended unemployment benefits through one of the state or federal unemployment extension programs.

This federal unemployment extension programs is called Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (Also known as EUC08).

Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08) includes 4 stages, or tiers. Each tier has a different maximum time period for which your unemployment extension will last:

Tier 2 EUC08: 14 week maximum unemployment extension.

If you use up all of your regular unemployment benefits, in most cases you don't have to apply for an unemployment extension because the system automatically applies for you, if you are eligible. It is very important that you keep track of your benefits to make sure you receive your unemployment extension if you are eligible.

If you get close to your unemployment benefits running out, give your unemployment counselor a call to check to see what you have to do in order to get they unemployment extension.

When I applied for unemployment benefits I did not list my 5 year old daughter as a dependant, things have changed at home and I need to add her as a dependant, can I add her now? If so, how and how much diffrence will it make on my benefits. We live in IL. Thanks in advance.

My parent claims beggining date is incorrect it is 5/2 instead of it being 5/7 and it has caused my final check to be separated from my parent claim earnings.
What do I do to fix this?

Hi. My recent payment was half the amount versus previous. It seems that I have used up Tier 1 but that Tier 2 has not been initiated for my account. Can you help please?

You have to completely exhaust your Tier 1 benefits before Tier 2 will kick in. So you may have had an uneven balance which had to be finished out which is why your last payment was less.

For example:

Your Tier 1 maximum benefit allowance is $4000, to be paid out evenly at $200/week for 20 weeks. However, any part-time earnings during this time might effect a given week's unemployment payment. So, let's say during week 10, you earned $150, which means your unemployment payment for that week would only be $100 (*see below for an explanation of this) This now means that you've extended your payout an extra week (it will now take 21 weeks to get your full benefit balance), but that last week will only give you a payment of $100 rather than the usual $200.

I hope this helps . . .

* You can earn up to 1/2 your weekly unemployment benefit amount free and clear, but every dollar after that is taken out of that week's payment; e.g. if your weekly benefit is $200, you can make $100/week without if effecting your unemployment, but if you make $101, your unemployment payment will be $199, if you make $102, your payment will be $198, if you make $103, your payment will be $197, etc, etc

I was on tier 2. I had a contract job for 2 weeks and was laid off. I submitted my claims correctly indicating I had work and the pay received. Can I continue with tier 2 or will I now be denied benefits?

Just finished Tier 1 benefits, and received letter that I was eligible for Tier 2 at $336 WBA. One day later received another letter that IDES approved me for a second regular benefit year at $146 WBA instead. Called IDES and inquired why I was switched over since $146 is $100 or 25% less than EUC - I thought per public law I have to receive the higher WBA. And EUC claims are never changed right - they stay the same as the original claim? Am I right?
Thank you for help before I call back IDES!
