Illinois Unemployment Eligibility

In order to establish unemployment eligibility in Illinois you have to:

1. Be a resident of Illinois. If you are not a resident of Illinois, but worked in Illinois at your last job, you should still have Illinois unemployment eligibility.
2. Have worked and earned income in Illinois.
3. You must not be disabled.
4. You must be able to work.
5. You must be actively looking for a new job.
6. You must have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you quit your job or were fired for 'just cause' you may not be eligible to collect unemployment in Illinois. Every case is different, so if you lost your job -- be sure to apply to unemployment in case you are indeed eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

There are special rules that apply to unemployment elibility for military personnel and union workers, so check with your mility or union representative for these rules.

Our daughter has worked at a company for 11 to 12 months in Illinois. She was a dispatcher for an ambulance service, and her shift was midnight to 8:am. A few days ago she did not show up for her shift. Later we learned she was taken to the hospital. While, she did not quit or give notice to leave, by not coming into work, her employer terminated her employment. Is she able to receive unemployment benefits?Quoting derrick:

See point #5 above... if you are going to school you're not actively looking for work, and they will check.

I have worked steadily for the past 20 years. Then I had some health problems and needed to stop working and I went on disability. I felt I was able to go back to work, however when I did, my employer and I both agreed I was not yet able to do my job so I went back on disability. I am no longer collecting disability as I am no longer disabled. I am registered with multiple temp agencies and I have gone to more than one interview. Can I get unemployment to help until I get back on my feet and have a job?

How long do you have to work somewhere before you can file for unemployment?there's unfair stuff going on at my workplace. Ex: making us clock out before the last hour before we can leave because he thinks that is the 'easy' part of the job. And making us pay for when customers don't have coupons for their purchase. I've been there 9 weeks.

My wife works in a pretty rough area for a property management company ,running multiple properties from one main site ,and obviously in this position you are forced to make decisions that make people very angry ,she has recieved death threats from unauthorized occupants (and was granted an order of protection from a judge) but the man lives one block away now. She has been physically threatened countless times accompanied by racial comments the stress is overwhelming her mentally and physically(migr anes ,severe cramping in her neck and back) and since her employment she has had to be put on multiple meds. To deal with it all ,would she be able to collect benefits if she quit with a doctors recommendation ,while she looks for another job.

I have had the same job for going on seven years now. Conditions have steadily gotten worse in our environment, but the one that has bothered me since I have started is that we get NO LUNCH. We work 12 hour days and usually get a 10 minute break every two hours, but no lunch. I am severely tired of this and want to quit but we live in a pretty depressed area for new ooportunities. At this point I am wiiling to try as I am at wits end. Can I quit and pursue a career change and draw unemployment? Please help! Thank you!

Hi..please help with appeal hearing 9/17!

I was injured at work, reported it to my super immediately, and
asked for injury form to fill out (been hurt at work in past) and
for name/address of medical facility employer sends workers
to..met with a)"don't know ..no ones been injured in 25 years(!)?
b)"I'll get back to you."
Next work day (a Monday) called into super's office, told my
collections (vending) were short(no previous warnings) and
their were reports"of bad driving (also no priors) with the
company vehicle..the owner said we're letting you go."
Filed unemployment..denied because..ready for this?.. the
employer claimed I VOLUNTARILY QUIT!! Appeal 9/17.
Thanks for ASAP help, Scott

Hello, will signing a "release agreement" that I recieved from my old employer stop me from receiving unemplyment benefits? I am reluctant to sign the agreement as the agreement states I "voluntarily and freely" resigned as an employee. I do not agree with this statement because I was terminated for not being a "team player" suposidly. Will I still receieve unemployment befefits if I sign a release agreement that states "Emplyee freely and voluntarily resigns as an employee of company, and from any and all other positions, which he may hold with the company". Can you negotiate the trems and wording of a "release agreement"?

I work for the u.s. Post office as a letter carrier. My current position is called a TE (transitional employee). I have been informed that this position will end in April. However, they want me to apply for and take a test for a new position call a CCA (city carrier assistant). The CCA job is almost the same as the TE job only I have to take a 25 percent pay cut. If I do not apply or take the test and an let go can I collect unemployment.

Thank you for your help.

My grandson worked for 9 months at a seasonal job. Work ended at end of November. He got a job about 2 weeks later and worked for 30 days. He is in truck driving school for 2 weeks and then will begin employment with a trucking company. Can he receive benefits for the 4 weeks he was unemployed? Can he still apply for the weeks in November 2012 and January 2013 that he was unemployed?

I started a FMLA leave last Feb. I was then approved for short term disability. I used the FMLA up and took a personal LOA. I was then approved for long term disability. I was given a couple return to work dates, in which I thought was October 2013.

I was hospitalized for a week, I've been home for a week and received a letter of termination. I was also denied SSI benefits got that letter the same day as termination letter.

Am I qualified to receive unemployment benefits?

If I quit my job because the person who was watching my disabled son while I worked, quit, and I cannot find anyone else, am I eligible for UI. My employer cannot accommodate my reduced hours. I would continue looking for someone to watch him or to find part time work that would allow me to work and be home with him when necessary.

Hello, I worked in Indiana for all 22 and was just laid off. However, it was for an IL contractor and which I paid state income tax in both states. I am an IL resident. Am I able to draw IL unemployment benefits due to some sort of reciprocity among these two bordering states and the fact that i paid IL state income tax out of my check? Also, just after that, I had two weeks on a job after this in Illinois and then was laid off again
