I just received a letter from IDES. I believe I am entering Tier 3 as of Monday, Feb.21, 2011. I was dismissed from my job on February 6, 2009. I don't recall when the final determination of my eligiility was approved but I received my first check in March of '09. The amount, $196 weekly, without the FAC, was based on the last quarter of 2008 and the first three quarters of 2009. The letter I just received said my weekly benefit is now $102. I thought my benefit amount remained the same throughout the four tiers and EB. Can you help me understand this. Of course, I am going to go to my Unemployment office.

I was laid off in Nov. 2010 and just received a bonus check for the portion of 2010 that I worked for the company. Do I claim this amount in my weekly benefits of services rendered for the week I received the check?

I attended college and still collected unemployment. I obtained a business degree. When asked on the form whether I attended college, I answered yes. Shortly thereafter I received a notice from Unemployment to schedule a call with me. They confirmed my start and planned end date for school - which they documented in the system - and then I was clear to always answer YES to the attending school question. Without this meeting/call, my benefits would have stopped - they scheduled it with me. So I don't see any issue for you.

I have been getting unemployment benefits in IL since July. I was offered a part time job & started yesterday. However, I just realized that by the time I figured out the wages & travel expenses, I will not be making any more than the unemployment, which is less than my previous full time job. Can I quit the new p/t job and still collect unemployment? or am I stuck w/ this job until I can find a better full time job?

I was laid off at the end of February 2011 and received unemployment. Starting August 28th I started freelancing/temping over 40 hours a week. It's the companies busy season and they needed extra temp help. I will finish freelancing/temping for the company on Nov 15th. Will I still be eligible for unemployment?

I found seasonal work, and reported my orientation pay ($50 gross for five hours) when I certified, marking as "holiday pay" and also the "Did you Work?" question...When I got paid from IDES, my amount was reduced by $42. Is this correct, or am I misunderstandin g "holiday pay?"

# Tiffany 2012-01-18 16:13
Holiday pay refers to a holiday, like Christmas, which a worker will sometimes receive time and a half pay. For example if you were paid $10/hr at your job and you worked on Christmas, your pay would actually be $15/hr (time and a half) You should not answer yes to the question about holiday pay unless you actually worked a holiday. Seasonal work just refers to work done in a particular season:summer,f all, winter, and spring.

I was offered occasional work, paid via 1099 when work is available. This work is occasional week by week, so how does this effect my unemployment. Specifically I expect to work 25 hours this week and nothing next week. So my next reporting period do I get no unemployment pay 1st week and then unemployment the 2nd week?

Hi, I live in Illinois. My Employer is having difficulties giving us good checks, they bounce or don't have money in their payroll account to cover the check issued, so its not even worth putting in or trying to cash at there bank. If I leave my job because of this reason, am I entitled to unemployment benefits?

I filed for unemployment online on January 3rd 2012. I have not received any confirmation that I am approved for it in the mail or in an email. I called the automated number and it has the amount I should be getting paid out connected with my social. Should I receive a letter or will I have the money deposited into my account?I signed up for direct deposit. If so when should I expect my first check?

I am a 4th year teacher and this is my tenure year. My public school employer has just notified me that they will not be giving me a contract for the next school year. They stated that I must resign by March 1st and then they will not fight my unemployment request if I make one for the next school year. Other wise, they will fire me and fight any unemployment. Their reason for not rehiring me is that I don't communicate well with someone but would not say if it was students, parents or staff. I do not plan on resigning. How does this affect my unemployment if I don't find a position for the next school term?

I was laid off from my job and will never get called back. I've been looking for work but nothing has come up in 10 months of trying. I'm thinking of going into business for myself. Can I continue to collect unemployment while I build business, or at least earn some money from it?

I have worked @ company for 6 yrs now...& thru out the company everyone filled out a preference sheet as to which shift you would prefer. Many workers from 2nd shift made 1st shift their top preference. So many people from 1st are being forced to go to 2nd because they have lower seniority. First is this legal? & for those who chose to quit or not move to 2nd, can they collect unemployment?

We are having a mandatory closing at the plant I work at. We were told up until a month ago they would take volunteers. Long story short if you are lucky enough to have vacation left you can use that otherwise it is unpaid. Question is with my being a full time employee of three years can I collect unemployment in Illinois state for this?

My mom has been on her job for 10 years and throughout, her manager has created a very hostile work environment for her and her colleagues. The HR dept (one person) has not been helpful or supportive of her complaints. She has recently been suffering from some health challenges and has been toying with taking an early retirement. If she is either fired or decides to quit and finds that she is eligible for unamployment, can she still retire while collecting unemployment? Or do you have to be employed in order to retire? Thanks for any assistance you can give.

Starting working for American Express in 1994 in IL, continued working for them but moved to AZ, then back to IL and was laid off by them in AZ 2013. 19 yrs total. I filled out AZ UI form but haven't persuded any payments from AZ UI. I heard I can apply for UI in IL instead since that is where I stated w/AX and will be moving back to IL in April. Is that true or do I need to use AZ for weekly payouts?

I could not look for work due to my husbands total hip replacement surgery. I answered "no" on my certification date.
now I received a letter telling me i may not have qualified for benefits. I did not want to lie and say I actively looked for work, when I didn't. I needed to be at home to take care of my husband. I can return to looking for work as of May 6th, when my husband can remain on his own without my help. What do I do?

My employee who's last day was 7/5/13 insists she cannot file for unemployment because you have not received the information yet from our payroll processor. Will she lose her waiting week if you do not receive the information 7/12/13? If so, can I report this info over the phone?

I have been working for the same employer for several years now. I am a part time employee. When I started there I was averaging about 24 hrs a week. My employer has consistently cut my hrs every year. AND NOT FROM LACK OF WORK!! This is what they do when they want someone to quit because they refuse to pay unemployment. Today, my hours were cut again. Starting this coming Monday, I will only be allowed to work 9 hrs a week. Someone told me I can collect unemployment because of the small amount of hours they are allowing me to work.. I have bills to pay!!!
