Georgia Unemployment Requirements

In order to start your unemployment, GA unemployment requirements include the following:

1. You are totally unemployed. Depending on your vocation and industry, you may qualify for unemployment if you have had your hours reduced.
2. You have worked and earned a minimum amount of wages in work covered by unemployment tax during the past 18 months.
3. You have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you were laid-off you will qualify for unemployment. In most cases, if you were fired for cause - you will not be eligible to collect unemployment. If you were fired for cause, you SHOULD apply for unemployment anyway, just in case you are eligible to get it.
4. You are able and available for work. If you are unable to work because of disability or medical condition, you may not meet the Georgia unemployment requirements, but you should apply anyway. If you are not eligible for unemployment, you may be eligible to collect disability benefits, and the case worker at the unemployment office will be able to direct you on how to apply for disability.
5. You are registered for work at your local Workforce Development Center. You must do this when you apply for unemployment, and every week when you certify your weekly claim.
6. You are actively seeking work. You must apply to a minimum of two jobs per week.

To continue receiving weekly unemployment benefits, GA unemployment requirements state that you must file a 'weekly claim' by doing the following:

1. Meet all of the GA unemployment requirements listed above.
2. Apply for at least two jobs each week.
3. Contact the Georgia unemployment office to file your 'weekly claim'. You can do this via phone or on the internet.

If you have received the letter stating what you can get in unemployment does this mean you are approved or does a second letter come stating that?

I am disable however I am able to work and available to work yet my unemployment was denied because my disability limits me to working from home. Can I appeal this to get my unemployment. under ADA law my job is required to make accommodations for me to work from home however in the event they are unable to do so that shouldn't not exclude me from getting unemployment until they are able to accommodate me.

I was hired to work PRN or as needed under a contract agreement to work at least 3 days a week . This position is not full-time or part-time. My pay rate for this job is $30.49/hr. Therefore 3 days of work a week ranging from 4 hours to 8 daily would yield a decent check. However the last 3 months I was informed that hours are being reduced due to budget reasons etc. This has resulted in me receiveing checks w/ only 6-12.5 hours for the entire month (Under $200 a month and/or under $350 a month). May I apply for reduced hours? Your time and consideration is deeply appreciated. Thanks!

I lost my job last yr & received my UI then. I since have had to reapply & I received my determination paperwork which gives the weekly amount & how long but in the bottom box it states "between the filing period of your previous claim & this claim you must have worked for an employer covered by unemployment insurance law. You must have earned ten times the weekly benefit amount of this claim. You have not earned that amount and cannot be paid benefits." I don't understand this becauselthe company I worked for was covered by unemployment insurance & I made over $14,000 total for 2 of the 4 quarters. Does this mean that I won't be receiving UI?

My FMLA start date would have been 4-23-13, I was due to have a baby 4-6-13 which my company was willing to work with me on. Unfortunately or fortunately, my baby came 2.5 weeks early on 3-20-13 so I was terminated from my job. I received my notice of separation from them and was wondering if I would be able to collect benefits until I can go back to work??

I was suspended until further notice without pay for alleged misconduct away from work. I have been employed full time with this company for over three years. Can I collect unemployment benefits until my employer lifts suspension or terminates my employment?

For several months I was the target of a hostile working environment by another coworker. This employee made it her mission to create probs for me. Whenever she and I worked the same day, I did what I could to have as little contact as possible, as just opening my mouth gave her enough of a reason to get nasty. On more than one occasion I went to the manager and an asst. manager about this coworker, and each time I was told they would take care of it. Whether or not they did speak to this employee, the problems continued. What gets me is her instigating problems is well known. Finally on Oct. 4 I had enough, and felt my only option was to quit. Will I be eligible for unemployment? Also, when I returned to pick up an item, she was still there. So much for taking care of the problem. Anyway, since I quit and was not fired, under the circumstances will I be eligible for unemployment?
