Florida Unemployment Extension - Extended Benefits (EB)

There is another type of unemployment extension called Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED), more commonly referred to as Extended Benefits (EB). You will only qualify for the EB Extended Benefits unemployment extension if you have used up all of your regular unemployment benefits and also used up all of your EUC08 unemployment extension.

If you qualify for the EB Extended Benefits unemployment extension you will receive additional benefits equal to 20 weeks or 80% of the maximum benefit amount on the original unemployment claim, whichever amount is less.

Hi, a group of us were laid off early last year, and have just now entered the EB phase... Very frightening. I know that when (still hopeful!) I found a job on the normal unemployment benefit schedule, and would therefore cease benefits ... if I would ever need them again in the future, I would be able to access unemployment benefits. Does the same thing true with EB? Does this make sense? IE, if I find a full-time job NOW on EB (oh please), cease benefits (please), would I be able to access unemployment benefits in the future, given that I'm now on EB?

I am receiving extended benefits in Florida totalling $5,456.00 but they will be paid only thru March 10 "due to Federal funding limitations", leaving over $3,000.00 unpaid..
Now that the Congress and the President have agreed to extend the benefits for the entire year 2012, will my benefits in FL continue to be paid after March 10?

Thank you for your help!

I am reading these comments and wondering many of the same questions. I was laid off in October 2010 and am now wondering how much longer I have. My wife is still working and that is the only thing keeping up "above water" but when these benefits run out is there anything else? I am having a VERY hard time finding a job because of my age (I am 54). So what's next? Do we lose our house? What else is there?

I lost my job of 1 yr in Sept. of 2010 and was recently approved for the extended benefits with 5,400 in my account. I received the last check which wasn't a full check-as there wasn't enough left in my account-and I was just wondering if there is another tier for me to go on to or if I just have to pray for a miracle.
I was only receiving $162 a wk as it was and only able to stay barely current on bills because my brother-whom I share a house with-has a fairly decent job.
I live in Flagler County in Florida and we still have one of the highest unemployment rates in the state-13.5%-which makes it extremely difficult to find work. I do my five job searches a wk- actually usually 7-8 depending on if there happens to be a new business that pops up or one I haven't been to in a while and have done everything I was asked to do and yet my brother and I now run the risk of losing a place to live because his salary alone will not cover all the bills. After losing our house in North Carolina and trying to make a new start here with new jobs in 2009 I, unfortunately was not at my job long enough to built up a lot of credit for unemployment as I was let go after an office conflict I was not directly involved with caused me to lose my job. Please don't tell me I have no more options.
I can't even get approved for food stamps as I have no kids and my grandmother lives with us and they include her social security money into making a decision for/against benefits-even though her money barely pays for her medical and the few things she likes to buy herself(she is 96) and her income should not impact me, but it does. It says alot for the system when I know if I-who am responsible and have chosen not to have the state pay for me to have children-were to turn up pregnant tomorrow I would be approved for medicaid, foodstamps and WIC to help me out, but since it's just me I get nothing.
