Connecticut Unemployment Extension

If your Connecticut unemployment benefits have run out you may be eligible to receive extended unemployment benefits through one of the state or federal unemployment extension programs.

This federal unemployment extension programs is called Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (Also known as EUC08).

Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08) includes 4 stages, or tiers. Each tier has a different maximum time period for which your unemployment extension will last:

Tier 1 EUC08: 20 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 2 EUC08: 14 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 3 EUC08: 13 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 4 EUC08: 6 week maximum unemployment extension.

If you use up all of your regular unemployment benefits, normally you don't have to apply for an unemployment extension because the system automatically applies for you, if you are eligible. It is very important that you keep track of your benefits to make sure you receive your unemployment extension if you are eligible.

If you get close to your unemployment benefits running out, give your unemployment counselor a call to check to see what you have to do in order to get they unemployment extension.

There is another type of unemployment extension called Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED), more commonly referred to as Extended Benefits (EB). You will only qualify for the EB unemployment extension if you have used up all of your regular unemployment benefits and also used up all of your EUC08 unemployment extension.

If you qualify for the EB unemployment extension you will receive additional benefits equal to 20 weeks or 80% of the maximum benefit amount on the original unemployment claim, whichever amount is less.

I owned a successful exterior design business in the State of CT for over 20 years and had to close the doors due to the economy. I am bankrupt and facing foreclosure. I have been looking for a full time permanent job for over two years now and can't find anything other than little day labor jobs here and there. Am I eligible for unemployment?

I live in CT and I"m on my fourth tier of six weeks unemployment. I asked an unemployment representative if there were any more extensions available after the fourth tier and he said no because the other extension expires at the end of March for CT. If I'm understanding correctly, I'm reading here that there is an EB that extends for an additional 20 weeks? Is this correct or does this have an expiration date?

I am currently receiving unemployment in CT and on the fourth tier. I asked a representative from the unemployment line if there was any other extension available afterwards and he said no because the additional extension will expire in March in our state of CT. I've read here that there is an EB that is an additional extension of 20 weeks. Am i understanding this correctly or is there an expiration on the EB too? Thank you

i had received unemployment until last April 2012. They said I no longer could receive benefits. Will the extention cover me? Or is it only for people still on unemployment? I have been on so many interviews and trying so hard to find work. My Father is helping to support me and it isnt fair to him.

Do I have to file for an extension and if so when? I have been trying to find full time work for the past 6 months. I am currently 9 months pregnant and will be delivering soon. Just need to know how to go about this since it looks like the time is running out for my benefits, never been on unemployment before. Thank you

I received a letter from CT saying I can re-apply on the one year anniversary of my initial claim in Nov 2017.
What do I need to do to qualify for additional benefits. I am 69 years old and my employment opportunities are pretty bleak.

My initial 26 weeks are running out . After 27 years with the same company, I was laid off because they were relocating from Connecticut to South Carolina and family obligations precluded me from moving. I have been looking for employment and am working with several Placement Agencies but will need more time to secure a new position that pays a living wage. Do I need to do anything to apply for an Extension of Benefits ? Please advise

How do I apply for an extension of my weekly unemployment benefits? I just filed today for my last payment. I filed for divorce and am now a single mother with two kids. I have been searching for employment for weeks now. I have went on multiple interviews, provided multiple drug screens and submitted the background checks. Nothing seems to be working out. Also in my past I have worked as a waitress and I started searching for serving jobs however there is absolutely nothing within 45 minutes of where I live. I need to file an extension but in Connecticut I’m not sure how to do that. Can anybody tell me If there are forms, is there somebody I’m supposed to call?
