Colorado Unemployment Extension

If your Colorado unemployment benefits have run out you may be eligible to receive extended unemployment benefits through one of the state or federal unemployment extension programs.

This federal unemployment extension programs is called Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (Also known as EUC08).

Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08) includes 4 stages, or tiers. Each tier has a different maximum time period for which your unemployment extension will last:

Tier 1 EUC08: 20 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 2 EUC08: 14 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 3 EUC08: 13 week maximum unemployment extension.
Tier 4 EUC08: 6 week maximum unemployment extension.

If you use up all of your regular unemployment benefits, normally you don't have to apply for an unemployment extension because the system automatically applies for you, if you are eligible. It is very important that you keep track of your benefits to make sure you receive your unemployment extension if you are eligible.

If you get close to your unemployment benefits running out, give your unemployment counselor a call to check to see what you have to do in order to get they unemployment extension.

There is another type of unemployment extension called Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED), more commonly referred to as Extended Benefits (EB). You will only qualify for the EB unemployment extension if you have used up all of your regular unemployment benefits and also used up all of your EUC08 unemployment extension.

If you qualify for the EB unemployment extension you will receive additional benefits equal to 20 weeks or 80% of the maximum benefit amount on the original unemployment claim, whichever amount is less.

I have exausted all of my benifits as of Dec. 19. When I log on to MY UI account on the unemployment web site it has a flag that says "benifits exausted". Does this mean that I am inelidgable for the recently passed Federal Extension? It is not at all clear on the website.

I am having the same issue right now. I cannot get a hold of anyone at the UE office - it's consistently busy. And the website is convoluted with very little information. Let me know if you found out the answer to this.

I'm on State extended benefits but the web site says they end on Jan 7, 2012. How does the extension until Feb 2012 affect people on State Extended Benefits? Do they still end on Jan. 7, 2012? I wish they would say how State Extended benefits are impacted based on the extension to Feb 2012. I agree the website is unclear with very little information and it's impossible to get through when you call.

I'm also having the same problem. When I do get through to a representative they hang up when I say hello. I would love to know what my responsibilitie s are. Do I need to file another claim form or do benifits automaticaly role to the fedral payment system when money is available?

I don't understand why it says under the 3rd tier of extended benefits that it is for 13 weeks but I only got 6 weeks? Then under tier 4 which the President just signed under one part it says Colorado did not meet the criteria for tier 4 and then further down it says that tier 4 extended claims will be processed as quickly as possible. I thought that Colorado did meet the criteria for tier 4 but whether or not I will get tier 4 benefits is very confusing on how it is explained.

Do I have to re-file to get the extension? The web-site says I am automatically put into the new tier, but is that after I refile?

After this Sunday I will only have one week left on my REGULAR unemployment benefits in Colorado. I have not had any extensions at all yet. I cannot be without some kind of income so will someone from the UI office contact me or what? It says to contact your case worker but no one ever answers and all I get is the automated service.. Does the extension automatically go into effect or is there a delay?

I have over 20 weeks left on my claim timetable but only 1 more week left in my benefits; do I need to file for the 20-wk (TIER 1) extension? and if so, HOW? (or is it "automatically" done, w/ a new dollar balance inserted into the balance)?? Thanks.

After my benefits have been paid out for the 26 weeks (maximum) how would I apply for an extension? Is this automatic and what tier does Colorado fall under since our unemployment rate is below the National Unemployment figure? I want to be ready when my benefits run out.

My benefits are about to run out. I keep calling the local unemployment office here in Denver, but I can never remotely get through. When do I need to apply for extension benefits?? Can I do it before my benefits run out? Do I have to wait until they run out? or am I automatically enrolled? Can't find any info on this on their website either. Please help!!!

I am currently on tier 3 of extended benefits and I am out of money. I was told that I would have coverage until January 7th but it looks like the Federal Exteneded Benefits are not being extended in CO. What are the procedures for State Unemployment Benefits? I qualify for them but I am unsure what I need to do to get them.

Any ideas?

My original claim was from January 9, 2011 - January 7, 2012. I have not been successful at finding employment and am ending Tier 1 on December 25, 2011. How do I continue my claim if I have not found employment by January 7, 2012? Will I be eligible for Tier 2 since my Tier 1 benefits will be exhausted prior to December 31, 2011.
Thanks

So what is a person to do? I am almost out of Tier 3 benefits and if I've read the information correctly, I don't get Tier 4??

I've put in HUNDREDS of applications....63 in the past 3 weeks...and other than the "rejection emails" (about 6 of those) I have heard nothing.....

Basically I can pay my rent until the end of January....after that, I guess I'm homeless.....maybe we can all form a nice "Hoover Ville" at Chatfield....

My regular benefits wil run on 12/15/12. Will I automatically be enrolledin the EUC program? If not, what is the procedure for filling and when do I ?

Also, it states that no payments on EUC will be made after 12/26/12
What does that mean exactly?

You will have to sign up for the federal EUC benefits, there is a link on the colorado unemployment website. There it will tell you all of the steps you will need to fulfill in order to receive benefits. As to your second question, if congress does not pass a federal unemployment extention by 12/29/12, all EUC benefits will stop (even if you have money in your account).

I have one weeks left of EUC tier 2 benefits (for the week of 1/28/13).

My understanding is that there is a tier 3 again in colorado (only 9 weeks now) for 2013.

From the last time, when I went from tier 1 into tier 2 benefits, I had to exhaust my tier 1 completely first. So that Monday I filed my EUC claim online and used up the last week of benefits for a $0 balance. Then I went and filled again before that Wednesday or Thursday so I could start my Tier 2 benefits the following week and not have a gap in benefits. The account balance was replenished with 14 more weeks of benefits.

Is that what I need to do again for this move from tier 2 to tier 3?

I just made my last claim. By reading the info on extensions it seems my extension will automatically renew. Do I have to actually go ahead any apply for an extension Tier 1 EUC08 anyway?
Sincerely,
Laura
