How to Cancel California Unemployment

When you find a new job you can no longer receive California unemployment benefits and may need to officially cancel your California unemployment.

In order to cancel your unemployment claim, you can:

1. Call, send a letter, or email to your unemployment counselor letting them know that you have found a new job.
2. Stop filing your weekly certification.

If you happen to receive an unemployment check while you are working, make sure to call your unemployment counselor to let them know. You may need to return the check - but this will be better than any possible penalties that you could be responsible for if you are found to be recieving unemployment benefits while working.

When I first recieved my first check, the first week, which equated to $450.00 was held. Now that I am cancelling the insurance, when do I get it?

I just opened a new claim in ca just shy of the base period in witch I would have received a larger sum of weekly benefits. Is it possible to cancel an existing claim (i have not cashed any checks) and open a new claim a week later?

I checked their website and it states .you must cancel an existing claim before you can reopen a new claim at a later date. But they fail to specify the time period you may refile a new claim from when the original claim was canceled.

Input appreciated

I just filed last night and my work rehired me today. Do I need to contact anyone to cancel? Or just ignore the UI paperwork when it comes?

I have started a new job and I am owed one week of my claim, but every time I file for one week it makes me refill out the claim form. I have only checked for one week and wrote in that I started a new job with the date! Why doesn't unemployment not have a area to check off if you find work! How hard is it to add another box! Frustrated with the system!

I filed a new claim but the award was based on the lowest quarter (I have not received any money yet). Can I cancel this claim and open a new one in January when they will use the higher quarter? Do I stand to lose the claim entirely?

I filed for Unemployment when my employer gave me a notice of reduced hours. I now find out I am only getting a dollar a week. Should I cancel my claim or just not file? If I should cancel how would I do that.

I just opened a new claim in ca, but have elected not to pursue unemployment, Is it possible to cancel an existing claim (i have not cashed any checks) and start a new claim within the calendar year if needed?

If I take a temporary job, how can I pause unemployment without canceling it? The job will only last a few months, and I'll need unemployment afterwards, but I won't be able to refile, since I won't have been "fired". Is there a way to pause it and begin receiving benefits again later?

I filed a claim for unemployment in June as my school shut down. I never received any unemployment nor notification of qualification for unemployment. I start work at my new school in August, do I need to cancel my first application or was it just never sent properly?
