California Unemployment Eligibility

In order to establish unemployment eligibility in California you have to:

1. Be a resident of California. If you are not a resident of California, but worked in California at your last job, you should still have California unemployment eligibility.
2. Have worked and earned income in California.
3. You must not be disabled.
4. You must be able to work.
5. You must be actively looking for a new job.
6. You must have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you quit your job or were fired for 'just cause' you may not be eligible to collect unemployment in California. Every case is different, so if you lost your job -- be sure to apply to unemployment in case you are indeed eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

There are special rules that apply to unemployment elibility for military personnel and union workers, so check with your mility or union representative for these rules.

What are the rules for unemployment eligibility for union members (Railway Act)?

Are they eligilble for unemployment if they decide to strike?

I assume they are eligible in case of lockout. Can you confirm?

Thank you.

I have a friend who didn't include a job when she filed for benefits. This cost her job, now they are wanting repayment under threat of prosecution. My question is can she still get food stamps/cash aid for her and her 11 year old special needs child?

I was laid off last June due to lack of work last June from a Company I worked for many years. I took a job with another contracting company within a week. I have been let go because I am not fast enough in my work. I worked long and hard but just couldn't keep up with those young kids. Can I collect Unemployment till I find a new job. I can't collect social security for a few years.

I was awarded UE benefits $0 based on the past quarters. I only worked 7/18/2011-10/2011 and was laid off. Can I refile in January 2012 so that my July 2011-September 2011 quarter/wages are taken into consideration and I qualify for some benefit?

My company relocated 46 miles away from home, since i didn't want to lose my job i decided to give it a try & go with the company, my schedule was from 7am-3:30pm now my boss informed me my schedule was going to change. Now i won't be able to carpool with any of my coworkers, due to gas prices, my internship from school & my salary I'm unable to do the change. Last week he approached to me in a very unprofessional way yelling at me in front of my coworkers. I made a complain to HR but they haven't done anything about it, which makes a hostile work environment.

I was recieving ui several years ago. A judge overturned the ruling so I owe the state of California money for this reversal.
Will the money that I owe keep me from recieving unemployment benefits in the future, should I need them.

After 4.5 years of being employed, my employer moved 15 miles further from my home. The hours I am required to work 8-5 cause my commute time to have almost trippled, or I can take a toll road that costs me $10 per day. I was moved from one division to another (under different management), my pay was reduced and my job description has changed. I have had to use up my vacation/pto hours to see doctor's bc they are by my home and what used to be a lunch appointment is now a 2.5-3hour ordeal. I have made several requests to adjust my hours or even reduce them to alleviate the commute issues, but I have been denied my requests. My lifestyle is completely changed and I am starting to get very depressed. Is there anything I can do? I do not want to quit bc I will not be eligible for unemployment, however I cannot look for a job while working here bc I do not have any vacation/pto time to leave the office. Can my employer require I remain employed? How can I negotiate a NO-FAULT termination since they moved and changed the terms of my employment?

Hi! I've been with my current company for 9 years. I had a baby recently and my maternity leave is coming to a close. I thought we were going to be able to work out a part time or from-home situation, but the only option is resume work in the office full time.
There is just no way I could drive to/from the city every day now with a baby, since the commute is an hour and a half each way. It's simply too much time in the car and away from the baby. If I'm forced to resign, would I be eligible to collect unemployment while I search for a suitable job, due to the lifestyle change?

Can you get unemployment benefits if you were fired for going to jail for a domestic dispute? Even tho it was ruled as self defense and the case dropped will it still be my fault for getting fired?

Re:
NOTICE OF DETERMINATION ON COMBINED WAGE CLAIM

Does "you are seperately eligibe for an award in another state" mean choose to receive benefits from ONE state or the OTHER, or can they be combined?

I received my paycheck from CA employer in December 2011. I went on CA UI immediately after losing my job. I moved out of state to take a job and ended my CA UI in mid June 2012.

After a year of employment, I am now unemployed (laid off) in my new home state. Am I still eligible to reopen my CA claim?

I called CA EDD and was told the cut off was 14 months. However, on the CA EDD website it says 18 months. Another site does not give a cut off.

Thank you.
