Hello, I am new to this forum.
![]() Here is the background of my story: I have a claim that I opened on February 1st of 2009 in the state of Maryland. I have been employed off and on since then. Most recently I worked a project from December 7th, 2009 to January 7th, 2010. During two of those weeks, the week of Christmas and the week of New Years, I made $250 which is under my benefit amount of $275. Knowing that the first $100 is waived in the state of Maryland, that means that I am entitled to $250. I did not reopen a claim until January 11th. I recently called to get everything straightened out. They let me know that I can file an appeal to let them know why I did not reopen my claim sooner. My reasoning is going to simply be, I was unaware of the stipulations to unemployment. I should be awarded unemployment simply because I am entitled to it as a resident. I know that the argument may not be strong enough. But I am looking for feedback on opinions of how to approach this. If there is any advice to winning this appeal if I do file, ect. I was unaware that I could file an appeal for back pay. I understand that they are strict with this application date, but was wondering if there is ever any leniency. Because of there is, it opens up a possibility for me to file another appeal for the time I was unemployed before Feb 1st. I waited 8 weeks to file unemployment in the hopes of finding a new job. I did not want to file unemployment, went against beliefs of mine til I realized I was paying into unemployment in case I do get laid off. Long story short, doing the math. I snookered myself out of 2000 dollars there at least. Wouldn't it be nice if I could somehow win that appeal. Anyhow, any feedback is appreciated. -J |
