I have been unemployed since being laid off in Feb, 2011 due to the company outsourcing my department. With the exception(s) of two temp jobs, one from April-July of 2011, and the other for but a week last month, I've been barely existing on unemployment benefits. Now with the extension of Federal unemployment being cut completely off on Dec 29, I'm absolutely terrified. It doesn't help that I live in Brevard County, Fl (home to Cape Canaveral, where some 5000-10000 employees lost THEIR jobs this summer). Our COUNTY UE rate is 11.10% (as of yesterday), but because FIVE large Fl counties saw their rates drop below 7.5%, the STATE UE avg has dropped to the point that Gov Scott has cut off the extensions for the entire STATE. I've been trying to check daily on any SIGN that the politicians in DC have grown a heart despite their Grinchy exterior, but haven't seen anything heartening. Does ANYONE know what steps a 50 yr old single, childless woman should take to ensure SOME means of income until a job FINALLY appears? I try to hold out some semblance of faith in our gov't, hoping and praying they realize their constituency actually consists of REAL, LIVING, BREATHING (for now, anyhow) PEOPLE. It doesn't seem that they care at all about any of us who they actually work for. As I see it, THEY have jobs, THEY make a pretty penny & THEY have the best benefits on the planet, so they're COMPLETELY out of touch with "Main Street". Clearly, they've been made aware of all the predictions of the country going COMPLETELY underwater with no one having the ability to buy GROCERIES, or pay their basic bills (rent & utilities) much less anything else. Please let me know what I can do once the 29th comes and goes. Thank you for what you do, and realizing what the politicians don't. That REAL PEOPLE are behind these comments. And we're SCARED!!!

Beginning receiving florida unemployment 02/11/2011. Just been notified that my benefits are used up. All the tiers and levels are confusing. When I begin receiving benefits I was told benefits were for 99 weeks. Has that changed? Thanks!

When my benefits were suspended I was unable to get through to a worker with unemployment, all representatives were busy, click..... after 15-16 call cut offs I contacted my State Representative, and they couldn't get through either... Finally I contacted Gov Rick Scott's office, who connected me directly to a worker. If you are having problems and can't get through, don't give up, The Gov's office helped me and they will also help you. This not only helps you but let's him know what kind of problems we are having. After 22 years with my company, they closed our Florida office and let all 60 employees go..... It is hard being unemployed, and I am so thankful for the temp help till I find a job,... but at 63....I know finding a job will be challenging...Here's wishing that all of us who want to work are able to find appropriate jobs....soon.... Never give up..... Best Wishes in your search,
